How to install an IPOD dock into a MOST based COMAND system

E class retrofit is not for the faint hearted, you have to tap into the rear sam and audio gateway, which are both at the left hand side of the boot.
you then need to run the wires to the front of the car and wire into the can bar under the glovebox, then wire into the back of the command,I can supply instructions for this, but you need to know what you are doing.

Is there some way of checking to see if it is already installed, I guess I just have the aux jack in the glovebox (centre top) but I can't tell the difference between one or t'other.

(plugged in ipod and on the multi function display I can navigate to AUX but it is blank underneath aux)
thanks

Steve

I have thought about it and decided to leave it.

My daughter-and-friends taxi duty is quite good fun when they use the long aux lead and take it in turns to "pod the ride".....shame to lose that and have to be the only pod navigator!

If you can send them on I'd appreciate it.

I bought a MB branded Ipod (30gb nano) today from my dealer.
£189 total - very good i think (only 1500 worldwide it seems so limited edition!)

Very swish with sublte MB brand on the back!

:D

Me too !! Arrived yesterday. Great isn't it ! Already filled it up though .....

When Steve in Holland fitted my Comand in the C43 he asked me if i wanted the ipod jack fitted for Euro35 i said yes please.

Had a quote on the fitting costs for the iPod kit, is £287.50 including VAT.

I've been told this is 2.5 hours labour, and I've checked with 3 dealers - all quote the same number.

Anyone have a view.....apart from How much !!!

That is outrageous.

It can be done in an hour on a A/B/C class. Perhaps the E is more complex with the audio gateway being in the boot!

When I fitted mine back in May, it took me 6 hours in total, and was an interesting exercise. The largest part of the time was spent removing all the items in front of the Audio Gateway, such as air-matic, Harmon Kardon, Comand Navigation DVD, etc, etc. Only once that lot was removed could I get access to the Audio Gateway... just to plug a single wire in!

I told my local dealer I was going to self install... they wished me much luck. When I went back to tell them I'd done it, they were surprised to hear I'd done it in 6 hours. They said the first time they fitted an iPod kit to a W211 took 8 hours

As Zerocool says, this is not for the faint hearted, but it is achievable. Personally I found converting to UHI from Nokia 6310i much easier, although far more expensive.

I'm more and more pleased I'm leaving it to the dealer.......taking all that apart sounds like a nightmare....

Its a fixed price as well -if it took you 6 hours, then I'm happy they are capping it.

SO booked in for the work this morning. Get to the dealer at 8am, 8.30am, yes sir we can do all this - no problem. Cost is £391.

Short walk to the door. So much for fixed price. Will now go back to my regular dealer - no more Romford MB for me !!

Steve in Kent can do it .. he did my sister's C class iPOD connection.
