Does anyone have a blow by blow method of removing a Comand head unit from a 2006 model SLK 280 #WDB171. I have a bust screen that needs to be repaired, and MB will not cover it under warranty.

Also I have found one repairer "Clusterrepairsuk.co.uk" who is willing to do the work - has anyone else used them, or has any comment on their work?

Never used that company but to remove the headunit from the SLK will go something like this -

Remove the gear shifter surround and shifter (push on the passenger side of the surround base and it will pop up then twist the release knob on the shift lever and pull up).
Remove the centre console trim piece and disconnect the wiring harnesses (lift up from the opening created by removing the shifter).
Remove the lower storage bin / ashtray (2 screws plus a connector if you have the ashtray).
Remove the AC control unit (disconnect the battery for this).
Remove the upper control panel button module (2 screws).
Remove the upper storage bin / cupholder (2 screws).
Remove the headunit (4 screws and a connector).

You can drive the car with the head unit out but i would recommend covering the openings on the end of the wiring harness that connects to the headunit so that you keep dust away from the optics (do the same to the socket on the back of the headunit) and you should re-assemble the car to the point of having the AC control unit attached before re-connecting the battery.
