After months of scouring Ebay a set of right hand side steering wheel control (i.e. volume buttons...) finally came up.

Duly bought and arrived today.

Looking at these they are held by screws beneath the airbag cover.

Any clues as to how to get this off without setting it off would be gratefully received...!

easy
-two torqs behind the steering wheel, need long thin torq driver, i think t20.
- if ur gonna remove the airbag then disconnect both batts for at least 10 mins before.
- the airbag has security type plugs, lift the centre lug out and the plug will pop off.
- once both plugs are out, lift the bag out.
- you wont need to to this bit but, the actual wheel is held on with a large hex nut, once undone, a bit of jigging and the wheel comes off.

dont start the car or turn the ignition on with the airbg off as then it`ll be a visit to a star machine to get the error reset.(shouldnt be a prob if u have taken the batt connection off)

good luck

Just to add...ensure the two plugs are fully home on re-assembly. Otherwise a visit to said Star machine will result.

one in the boot, the other one behind the pollen filter in the bonnet, tbh, i only undid the boot one when i took mine off, but was told after to do both.

will this location be obvious? Tried to use EPC and as usual could not find what I was looking for....

Same as Alps; I only undid the main battery, and I was following Indie instructions. 'Cept I left mine for 1 hour before tinkering. Apparently this is to let capacitors in the circuit self-discharge. :dk:

Also...I forgot about the steering wheel extending so spent a good hour faffing about behind it in an inch of space trying to get at the Torx bolts.

Then...when I took it to the Indie for Starring after a fault showed, he firstly extended the wheel.:doh::doh:

You live and learn.:bannana:

Thanks to all. After waiting for a delivery of security torx spanners, and discovering that they were a bit too long managed to get the airbag off and the volume button changed.

For anyone who looks at this, you do not even need to disconnect the wires from the Airbag - buttons will unscrew while still wired in.

As a bonus my rear roof module has started working also since the battery was disconnected.

So this week.

4 new tyres
tracked

next week
2 new shocks
MOT

and I could not undo the steering wheel which needs adjusting since the tracking...

If that is the case that is interesting?! I was a touch busy and as my Partner was round the corner from the garage I sent her with the car...

I could see a re-visit going on...

You might want to check before going in with guns blazing. But that's how my tracking was adjusted the other week.

Checked and happy. It's going back... More time off work messing about unfortunately.
