How to select gear on E63 M157?

as above on the manual shifting, also the gearbox can be a little rough on downshift, software update, gearbox service and remap resolved that for me although the one I had was tinkered with a little ;).
Agree with this. Prior to remap etc on mine I had the standard software upgraded (flash) to the latest version and the jerkiness disappeared

MCT is not the smoothest of gearboxes with respect to low gearing (up or down shift).

'C' (always starts in 2nd gear) seems to work best in slow-drive situations.

S or S+ (always in 1st) for spirited use only.

I have also read some cars when had tunes or maps installed on them, it can have an affect on the gear shifting smoothness of the car. Including TCU update.

If I were you purchasing a car of such quality, I would get the car up to temp, then test all Gear box modes. Give the car a good test drive. The MCT is never going to be as smooth as a 5g or 7g torque converter box especially that one in your S211 E63. But overall is a fantastic box. With its different options available. Changes are more firm in S+ and M mode going up and down the box. As said in a previous post, C mode the car stats off in 2nd gear for a more sedate pull away. S S+ M revert to 1st gear for a more sportier pull away. Also in C mode when say coasting to a round about, if you are in 2 gear and apply quick throttle the car can get mixed signals and can sometimes drop into 1st, as it gets slightly confused and believes you need more power. It takes a little getting used to the MCT. Its great fun at the same time. The only other little glitch with the MCT I find is when stationery at a junction and in C mode, there is a very ever so slight delay with pressing the accelerator and the car moving off, this is the carracter of the box, you do get used to it. It's not as noticeable in S S+ and manual mode.

Good luck finding your new to you M157 badgx 👍

Forgot to add, I have a sprint booster installed on the car. This has changed to carracter of the box also. It definitely has sharpened up the carracter of the car. In c mode with sport option number 5 it's perfect for me. Race 10 and in M mode is neck breaking 😄 it's fun when you're in the mood.

agree with the 🆙 post.

Once ATF is up to a temp (normally 3-5min drive), it works like a charm.

To add, gearbox oil/filter change (every 40-50k miles) also helps to prolong its life. I noticed that shifting is considerably smoother since I've done it.

Touchwood, bringing it home buddy, will have a M156 and M157 on the driveway lol 😀 What does a Sprint Booster do? Is it a gearbox smoothing module? The only modification I have in plan is a resonator delete, maybe some Vossen wheels too?

Also, although it's a Night pack, mine weirdly has some chrome trims that run around the doors, would like it blacked out and the front grill too. This would be my first priority.

Any website links to original mb accessories? I wonder if they do better quality Floor mats, would like to try some oem rubber ones if it's available?

Fantastic, you'll have two AMG Monsters on the drive 👍😁

The SB purpose is to take away any lack throttle response the car may have acquired.

My own findings are that is very much the case. It has two setting Sport mode 1 to 10 speeds. Race mode 1 to 10 speeds. In a nutshell it alters the throttle positioning. But, I have found when in R mode 10 with the SB and in M mode gear box settings the gear shifts are to fast and do really change gear very very fast. It would be ideal on a track but not for spirited driving on everyday roads. R 5 SB M mode gearbox is still very fast but acceptable. But personally just M mode Gearbox is perfect with no input from SB is required for my liking.

Where the SB is brilliant for my liking is C mode Gear box and sport setting 5 in SB. This takes away any lag the throttle has inherited, with the shifts of the car just perfect for day to day use. Sport mode is more relaxed than Race mode on the SB.

In a nutshell, the SB definitely has an affect on the gear shifts speed and ferocity when it's turned on with the press of a button. I have it on Sport 5 Gear box C for every day use. It works for me. Others may disagree.
It's also fun to have a play with the SB when the gearbox is in S+ and S mode.

Good call on a resonator delete. Really opens up the tone on acceleration.
Mine had the night pack (Black exhaust tips, all black front lower spoiler) but also had the chrome around the window frames and bootlid.

Got a link to your new steed?

Interesting, I may give it some consideration, is it connected through the obd port and can it be disconnected anytime. Don't really want anything hardwired in permanently.

Lots to take in with regards to these settings. My s211 is simple, just put it in D and off you go. There is a small tiny button, which changes the setting from C to S to M. Only 3 settings though, the 7G is very smooth.

You can get the window trims in black but they are not cheap
I got them for the c63

The SB has a connector that connects on to a pin like connector that the accelerator pedal is originally Connected to. With the SB taking it's place. But when the SB is off the cars accelerator pedal reverts back to factory settings. The SB is only on when you turn it on.

Very nice. Congrats.
I very much doubt you'll need a sprint booster on your bi-turbo.
As you have probably already found, they pick up so quickly from low revs.

I'll give you until Christmas before you are on the phone to MSL for a little extra;):D

I just had the monster out haven't driven it for a few weeks 😳 jez, the sound of it and the power is some what a little different to our s211 E320 😄.

Regarding the SB, I advised incorrectly, the SB is on the setting you last had it in. For example, I have it in Sport 5 with just takes up any slack the accelerator pedal has. It's perfect and does really make a difference definitely in C mode gearbox setting mode. I took some pictures, I doubt I'll be able to upload them 🥴😁

You can turn it on off by the press of a button. So it's not a big ordeal.

Cable is attached routed down the side of the side panel to underneath the lower trim panel then plugged in to the accelerator connector. 👍

I wouldnt waste your time with a sprint booster. All it does is tricks the car into thinking you pressed the peddle further than you have, effectively changing the throttle response curve. Pointless unless you have a car with a recognised laggy throttle response imo. The m157 has bags of power and under most situations you will find yourself feeding the power in balancing traction with acceleration not wishing you had more. If you're feeling fruity stick your foot flat to the floor and try launch control 😵‍💫😁

🙈😁 Another non believer in SB. Have you actually tried one?

I won't harp about how they work or try and convince that they work.

😁🙏
