Boot light faulty (not illuminated)

Sprung light - some insulation tape and a 3 wire connection with one spade off

Connected spade - full illumination

Hmmm was the spade off cos the light is on permanently ?

Pushed in button on boot frame - still on, pushed in button on boot lid - still on, pushed both - still on ....

Wondered where that 12v alarm sounder (thats been knocking round for ages) is - cant find it

Decide to go thermal and measure the heat (to ascertain if bulb is on when boot closed) - sadly inconclusive in that it gets hot so fast I cant tell if it was cold when I open the boot

Then PURE genious from the mechanically challenged ... I set my Nokia N95 to video, press record and put it in the boot - close boot, open boot - play film - problem solved. Yes I am very pleased with myself

Not so happy about...... OK its a screw cap BUT - pass footwell big chrome screw has a cover and its missing - I orderd a couple and they arrived - simple push fit thinks I - not a hope it just doesnt go in enough (?) so I decide the shaft of the cover is overlong and trim it - no joy so after butchering one cap I decide to remove the screw to find the hole in the middle and a lot of the cross cuts full of putty / filler / etc where a cap has had an attempted refit.

Try and flick it out with a term driver - nope - a tiny tiny screwy from a cheap mini tool kit - partial success but not enough. I get a drill bit the smallest I have and roll it between my fingers and after 20 mins I have removed all trace of putty and the cap fits like a dream - sooo - putting a screw cap on takes me best part of 30 mins gawd help anything else I do.

Car needs a battery cover trim screw in black plastic, the headlining above the drivers sun visor is strangely loose and the corner trim is not a snug fit like the pass side (any ideas?), a couple of screws in the wheel well are corroded so I will replace, a screw is missing from the hardtop header rail, what looks like a black plastic rivet is missing from the pass side seat skirt at the front (there are two), a trim strip above the rear number plate (only vis when boot open) is broken it looks like a monkey has tried to remove it (why) and bust it so I took the part number and will order one - thats it so far ....

Good thinking Holmes. Sounds like a great idea when there are no small boys around to lock in the boot.

Ah fatherhood - I never thought of it - If Mrs DSLiverpool is up for it the next time we have a boot failure we can grow our own mini checker :)
