I really don't like kickdown

Diesel or petrol driving is the same .

Braking in a straight line... Part throttle... Apex...Part to full .

Of course it's individual RG .

Sometimes it's the brigade of OEM has all the best answers , ECU , TCU , suspension , oil , etc , etc .

In the 55 on the motorway I always put in manual mode simply to avoid the car kicking down every time I have to overtake. Love driving on torque rather than revs

I agree with Op on this, when you follow someone down a slip road and when your going to enter highway at 35mph :wallbash: and you just want to join and match speed of other traffic it can be annoying. I have torque pity to not use it.

I have the same engine and don't hit the kick down unless I physically press the pedal to the point where the switch activates it. That's kick down.

Now, if you push the pedal when at low revs (say doing 30mph and it at 1100 rpm) unless you do a slow acceleration it will change down a gear to accelerate. If that's what you mean by kick down I can see the confusion, is its not kickdown in the true sense.

Personally I drive on a combination of the throttle and the paddle changers. If I want to gradually move up from say 30-40 without it changing gear then I just slowly apply the pedal pressure. If I want to move up the speed more quickly then it does need to go down a gear and I let it, then when I have reached the new speed I just use the paddle to upshift back to where I want it to be. Can do the same upshift if continuing to accelerate but don't want the revs to rise. It stays in auto mode as well so no issues in doing this at all.

So, if I understand you correctly, you give the accelerator a slight prod to pick up speed more rapidly...and it kicks down and gives you maximum revs? If that's true then there is something wrong.

It should merely drop a gear and give some extra revs or not drop a gear but still give you the acceleration you require. Forgetting about my CL, my experience with diesel was in a E320cdi...I never got full on kick down max revs by giving the accelerator a prod. Foot to the floor...yes, but not otherwise.

Looks like I'll investigate the could be simple task of limiting the throttle pedal range !!

Found a tiny bit of that foam jigsaw exercise mat stuff and temporary applied it to the part the pedal meets .

Initial brief experience is very positive

I've a larger piece of thinner ( roughly half thickness ) matting I could fix with polyurethane adhesive and would double up if need be .
