There are a few on eBay all claiming theirs is the best and everyone else's is rubbish.
Trouble is, they can't all be telling the truth.

You used to be able to get the genuine Basic 2 STAR system for about £3k. Mercedes have now stopped offering this and the only one available is the compact 3 (top end) at about £7k. That said, its pretty good value still as the autologic version which wont do SCN coding or any pin coding of comand units is over £7k. compare this to the BMW ISIS system which is £44k and the compact 3 is damned good value.

I suspect the costs will rise dramatically at some point to further squeeze out the independents

A word of caution to anyone buying a clone. You can only get access to the Mercedes SCN coding if you have an online account with them which you get with a new STAR system (Genuine). If you somehow manage to get online to them with someone elses account then it is extremely likely that your multiplexor will get locked out permanently.

With all Genuine STAR systems you are compelled to subscribe to the update service which costs around £110 per month. This does though get you telephone support with Mercedes specialists.
