hi,
I have an E250 2010 that comes with an Audio 20 with no USB, no Navi button. instead a button to adjut the sound bass, treble...it doesnt have Command either. the button is there but seems unused.
I dont have anything in the glove compartment suggesting I can buy a navigation addon and havd it plug and play there. sonething I read may work but not my case.
I read also about SD cards...not my case.
i read about a dvd to load...
I try to avoid going all direction without clarity from start. especially not clear if the car is prewired, has gps antenna... basically whats already ibstalled and whats missing.
I appreciated clear direction.
Thanks and Regards

Hi and welcome

I'm also a newbie so maybe someone with more experience can help more but my advice would be to speak to Command Online. They definately know their way around retrofits and should be able to help you identify what you need

Thanks Carl. I wasnt looking for the command option. simply upgrading Audio 20 to Navi. was hoping to find answers here.

Sorry but of a mix up in meaning, Command Online are a company that specialise in the supply and fitment of retrofit items for Mercedes cars. Do a google search on them, there's loads of information on their website or even contact them if looking for advice.

Thanks Carl. waant a mix up. I did understand exactly what you meant. seems many threads ppint to them. I was hoping to find a simple answer here. Yes I ended up emailing them and awaiting an answer. Strange is that I expect upgrades for radio unita not to mess with the wiring adding yes but not changing the wiring in a way that may risk damage to the new unit. would have made thinga simpler finding units and upgrading. didnt expect it to be a project... to be honest. new to the MB world so could be my narrow perception.
Thanks and Regards

www.comandonline.co.uk is a company that was formed long before Mercedes Benz decided to give their then-new COMAND NTG4.5 system the name 'COMAND Online' (because it was the first COMAND unit that could connect to the internet) in 2010.

www.comandonline.co.uk and their affiliate www.uniquecarsound.com carried-out many COMAND retrofits and audio upgrades to this forum members' cars over the years, your humble servant included ;)

Highly recommend :thumb: mb:

Thanks Mark and not doubting it. as I said being new the experience with the naming conventions, terminology for car types, models, correlation. seems to be bit more complicated from a UX user experience. I am an IT person and surprised. expected the whole thing to be much simpler :)

it is a perception I feel

I have this morning replied to your email.

Thanks Alfie

Comand online are excellent, but you should seriously consider whether your mobile phone will give you a better service.

No disrespect to Mercedes SatNavs intended, but in-car entertainment and tech goes out of date VERY fast.

Your phone, gives you pretty much state of the art, real time traffic feeds as well as access to "this year's latest goodies" from voice-activation to Spotify,

I don't have the answer, but I think you should examine it within your search.

Thnx Mike. Cant agree enough.Thats plan B for me should things not work to my expectations. just avoiding an added piece on my car front holding the phone... but may consider if what is offered not suitable. I have seen one unit online on sale and it says PCMCIA Card slot :) so cant agree enough with you.
Thanks again

What Mike said - the prices for retrofitting standard Mercedes SatNav will be eye-watering. There are some really good phone mounts available now so I'd look at that option

(Pulls on old IT hat) As ever, it's wise to wonder what you will "actually" be using the functionality for. Features and functions are great. But how long will you use stuff and what for.

I'm a huge technophile...but.... when it comes to my cars, I'm completely relaxed about having radio to hand, and my phone in my pocket for the relatively rare times that I need (voice activated, real time traffic feed pan-European) SatNav. And, as a matter of principle, I try not to use the phone in the car, so even that tech feature is irrelevant to me.

And, unlike many, I'm doing 15 - 18,000 miles a year across my three cars, so it's a fair chunk of time in my motors. (Sorry Greta)

and I agree as well. everyone's opinion and view is valid all looking at the same thing from a different angle. I travel alot and recently been driving from london to many european cities... need sometimss the phone for conf calls
mixed up with map may not work for me. I prefer the map in the car. but if ends up pricy and hectic then it is still an option.
Thanks.

How about getting a smartphone with data contract just for satnav? You can pick something up pretty cheap now and will still be cheaper that a retrofit? I'm no expert but you could be taking up to £1K for retrofitting something that will not give as much and maps will never be anywhere near as up to date as a phone

Mercedes satnav is last century tech. As above, get the WAZE app on your mobile phone. When an app is socially powered like WAZE it makes you aware of things ahead like broken down cars, potholes and mobile speed cameras.

too many options. driving distance I can do basic phone check and then set navigation on the car. standard car navigation. support using phone. I do not like to add more gadgets "personal opinion". too many thinga distraction from driving. addition space taken and dont like the idea using the phone for navigation when possible in the car. but I respect all opinions.

a simple question I am unable to answer. how can I figure out which radio head unit works for my car and be empowered to select one. I have an Audio 20 CD. i want to buy a Command APS. why it is not a simple choice of providing a list of head units suitable to replace mine without rewiring or retrofitting. basic ask before going into more complex scenarios? Why do I have to go to many places including command online and unable to get an answer to such simple question? seems unnecessarely complicating things. unless I am missing something!
