Identify the motorbike?

This thread has got this song embedded in my head.

That's a real classic: just like the bike. A Black Lightening was a bit exotic for me but my Black Shadow was the best bike I ever had. I sold it to buy the engagement ring, so that just shows how much I loved the woman who was to become my wife (and still is after 47 years).

I was looking at the Reg number at the front of Jocast's Dad's Norton *FC 377.( If there was a letter before the FC). I used to have a 1952 Ariel 350 which was SFC 376.

THOUGHT !! For Consideration-----How about a special sticky Bike thread on here on the lines of Footy and Politics??? Seems plenty of interest.

If the bike is too easy name my dad's car just visible on the left.

MK3 Ford Zephyr / Zodiac / Consul?

Best thread in a while - a whole new dimension.

Yes it was a MK 3 Zephyr.

I still remember odd features about that car. The American style front bench seat dictated the need for a column gear change and a dash mounted handbrake. A neat touch was the hidden fuel filler cap which was located behind a fold down rear number plate.

Had this as well, tall first gear, about fifty mph in first gear, not as impressive as the Gold Star but you didn't have to slip the clutch so much!

Yes please!

Anyone identify the engine in the 3wheeler in my avatar pic (I may have given details before, but a clue anyway, it is a bike engine......)

Can't possibly tell the engine of the 3 wheeler from the small pic. Bike engine possibilities would be a Guzzi or a Honda CX.

Sorry about the small pic, but you're correct, it could be either, it is in fact a CX500. The chassis can also be supplied ready for Guzzi, so twice congrats!

Was given a shot of one of these in '86 or '87 and it nearly threw me over a wall on the first corner. Huge gyroscopic effect from the engine. It must have had a massive flywheel.

A mate had a 500 Gold Star in late 60's with me on the pillion we flew over the then new Hammersmith flyover at 90 MPH + came down the other side with the rear unstable, rear Tyer had punctured, fortunately not completely flat, or I doubt I'd still be here now. Gold Star great bike, brilliant exhaust note, you always knew when one wasn't far off. Happy days. :thumb: Note, there used to be a man in Dover I think, who would build you a replica, until not too long ago!

I know what you mean, I had one, bought for spares for the JZR, but I found was too good to break, so I used it as a bike.

Being a transverse V-twin, the crank is North/South, rather than across the bike, hence it will try to rotate the bike sideways, also it has a high centre of gravity, which doesn't help!

I rode mine once with a rear tyre that had done a few hundred miles in the back of the three wheeler, which had flattened the centre of the tread, making it rather like a car tyre.

With the CX's inherent handling characteristics, shall we say it was interesting

Hi, i had the same thing, over a hump back bridge to fast and punctured the rear tyre, had to push the bl**dy thing home, being a BSA Super Rocket it was a bit of an effort. Never had a Goldie but wish i had.

I have a BMW flat twin with the same characteristic. In terms of being a handling problem it's a none issue but it's entertaining to blip the throttle at the lights and feel the bike move.

Here is my 1961 BSA Super Rocket that I have had since about 1980, photo is circa 83 /84.
I have better photo's of this back home. I rebuilt this in my living room in 1981 ish ( was living alone then ) and have many pics documenting its rebuild.
It has 9:1's, a high lift cam and a highly polished crank. Now needs another rebuild as it has not been used for 30 years and probably the 9:1's taking out.

Edited to include another pic of the BSA and also a photo of my ex police white Pan European, that I no longer have.
