Hi there,

I ve recently bought an imported from Japan CLK200 and it has this Comand Unit. I cannot find any manuals, all I got so far is in japanese. If you could help me identify the model perhaps I could also find the manuals for it. My CLK is a model of 2004 and it looks like the manual is this one (click), but really it is not, since mine features a TV Tuner also.

Please take a look and let me know if you can help,!

Thanks,
George

A COMAND from japan will not work in the UK for any radio or TV tuner section, the radio tuner will only tune from 78 -90 mhz that will give you radio 2 only and nothing else

You can get a band stretcher no problem to get something out of it , and since the scan width would be a function of firmware , would it not be possible to do a firmware upgrade?

The other problem is that they tune to a 0.5mhz the same as the USA radio's.

It may be possible in the menu but I have not known it yet

The dealer has already 'chipped' (or did something else dont really know) to strech the band frequencies so I can now listen to EU frequencies. However they 'display' the wrong frequency which is not any problem if I save into my 6 channels the radios that I mainly listen to. This is not a problem. TV is not working at all however ...

Anyway, if I can detect the Comand model I may find a manual and do many things on my own ... but any idea what's this model?

thanks!!

George

Will it give this information on the back of the unit, or has anyone any knowledge of the engineer codes. I see a 'Navi' button, but does the navigation work? I ask because on some models the navigation feature is a cost option. (Not on UK models)

Good luck with the quest and how much would a UK replacement cost, perhaps it might just involve a straight forward replacement?

Regards
John

The TV can never work as its NTSC M

Should be this one for your car

Yes that is the right one for the car.
Should be a straight swap, however might require a wiring loom which Alfie can supply.

Alex.

That is a plug and play I do believe no loom or anything

I think that the TV is a separate item and not part of the COMAND but I am
not sure.

Just check on Ebay cars = Comand there are a few there

The Japan COMAND (If you can call it that) is mega different wiring and all now you might be able to plug and play with a new headunit but on the other hand you might not.

If memory serves me correct (and i should point out here that it dos not always) the Japan CLK's have a separate AGW and all the other variants use the once piece headunit.

thanks for all the tips guys !

So what I have concluded is that best thing is to replace it with a EU one and end of story.

Has anybody from you bought from a specific eBay user so that we know that these guys are reliable enough?

thanks a lot guys!!

I know of 10 guys that have bought from him with no problems at all, I would not have put it up had there been any risk, you could
look on Ebay Germany

I tell you what before you go spending money on a headunit thats gonna cost you a pretty penny even online if you want to go ahead and PM me your VIN i will run it past EPC, i had a quick look earlier on when i was trying to find some part numbers for myself and it shows the Japan version having the Audio Gateway in the trunk like i expected not integrated into the headunit like the EU/US CLK.

I have nothing to say that it is that different, if you slip the command out and unplug it you can put a photo up of the rear
Do you have WISnet mate?

Check out document number - GF82.62-P-3116QMJ (Audio Gateway Control Unit Task/Location/Design with code 498 Japan Version)

Should clear it up

Or if you have EPCnet check out the audio pages and the AGW is in the trunk if you pick on it then it will show code 498

er.. sorry I haven't understand anything on the last two posts, that looks like Rocket Science to me :-)

Your car's chassis number mate it should be easy to find on a small window at the bottom of the windshield or in your manual.

If you could PM that number to me i will check the computer and hopefully that should figure out if its just a case of replacing the headunit or if your looking at re-wiring, i think its the latter.

If you search for Miro he had a real good thread showing a CL (i think) having its navi converted from Japan spec.
