CLK 320 Advantgarde Convertible
Something not right with my baby. Last Tuesday morning started the car just like every morning. Moved the lever into R to get out of the drive. The car felt very sluggish and juddering as I'm reversing. Got out of the driveway and changed to D and as I accelerated the car didn't feel right. As it changed from 1st gear to 2nd gear it felt like it over revved before changing. As it moved through the gears it felt ok. After a couple of minutes as the car oil temperature reached it's normal temperature the car felt as normal. Since then every day the first few minutes the car doesn't feel and drive as smoothly as it should do. Within 5 minutes it's as good as normal. This evening stopped at the traffic lights on my way home and as I tried to accelerate the engine revved but the car didn't move. I quickly put the hazzards on and then changed the gear from D all the way to P and back to D and off the car went. Really strange, don't know what's up. I also feel that when i put the heating on it plays up for the first few minutes. It just feels like when the car is cold it somehow affects the engine/gear change.

Anyone shed some light on this please :(

TIA

car will be 10 years old in May, just under 58k miles and never had ATF changed or filter.

Can this really cause the car to feel jerky and over rev when changing gear?

Get the ATF changed and you should immediately see the difference.

I did with my C202.

If it has a ATF dip stick then take a look; if the level is right and the colour of the ATF is a clear light red then I doubt it is the ATF that is the problem. If the ATF is low or looks like engine oil colour or murky then it could well be the problem. Get it changed at an indi or a auto tran specialist who knows what they are doing.

It will not have a dipstick, and anyway that's too simple. The ATF should be measured hot.

will go and talk to my indi mechanic tomorrow and see what he says and cost.

Any idea of price to sort out?

If I only lived near Preston, I'm about 230 miles way, very close to heathrow airport

I'll check what my mechanic wants

I agree , go to Olly. I do , and i'm not far from Heathrow either ( Hampton Court ) ...

The gearbox oil is a very specific one , if you do decide to let another mechanic do it , make sure he uses the correct one.

+1

Been advised to change the electroplate as well. This corrodes over time. This has shot up the price. Is this a labour intensive job and is the plate expensive?

Nasco12, Howard

Just got a quote from Olly as recommended, price was so good for an electroplate change along with ATF. My Indy is a lot higher. Am I missing something here? I cannot believe the price difference. Even taking into the cost of fuel, return trip 120 miles I'm still saving over £50.

Not missing anything Sattie - Olly provides a first rate service, and as he knows what he is doing, does things efficiently. That gives him business and you savings.

Even he does^^^
