In praise of the CL. Has there been a more perfectly shaped coupé?

Yes! Done by an Australian I believe, just a great shame about the front, nice but could have been a lot better IMO.

I really like the W215 (the headlights are a bit so so in design) and to be honest think the W216 with the right bodykit and wheels looks pretty sharp too.

Still prefer my W114 though...

I do still love the W215 - A silver 55 AMG please

I have a Pristine 55 AMG in Tanzanite Blue for Sale. Silver, common as muck ;)

Now that is nice.

Is google correct in telling me thats the lexus RC300h ? If so that's a pity because although its lovely from the side, I absolutely hate the new family front "gaping mouth" look.

Also the single engine that is available seems under-powered, appears my diesel GLC would take it from a standing start.

Couldn't post the photo from my phone earlier , but here is the most perfectly shaped coupe ever

with the Rolls-Royce Corniche just possible as another contender

although better in convertible form

and not forgetting the W180 Ponton coupe

and , of course , the cabriolet

I remember drooling over a £90 grand CL500 when I was waiting to sign the paperwork for a CLK500 at a fraction of that price.

Some Mercs, old and new, are to die for, while others are a much of a muchness.

The apotheosis of post war coupes is the Bentley R Type Continental by Mulliner. It is the embodiment of streamline, resembling in so many ways the pre-war Mallard locomotive of Sir Nigel Gresley. Beautifully proportioned it looks to be on the move even when standing.

Well , if it was stylish enough for Jason King ....

This is why I am struggling to decide. I love the look of the 216 CL!

I took some pictures of the car a couple of weeks ago and just created a new gallery:
