Increasing bhp in a c180k

Your cheapest solutions would be (in cost order):

Performance air filter (piperx is your best option). -£40

Performance pulley for your supercharger. -c. £200

Bored out throttle body. - £100 (local engineering shop)

Performance exhaust (de-cat). - £500

Rolling road remap. This will get the best out of all of the above. £400.

You could probably realise an extra 80bhp for £1250. More than you have budgeted but without the remap session it is false economy.

For further info, this is an excellent thread

ok, more specific, what more could I get for say, 500 - 700?

I guess you want more bhp because you want more performance ?

Have you tried the performance option that is provided on all Mercedes cars as standard ?

If you look down near the driver side floor area, you will see it.

It is a pedal on the right side.

A lot of people seem not to know about it's use as a performance tool.

Try it - you will be glad you did - it's very effective.

Use higher octane 98, as you got too much cash to spare.

Didn't I hear from Tesco advert it costs only 5p more per litre?

Failing that try Nitrous Oxide, it zooms like a rocket I was told and within your budget.

TBH remaps etc are aimed at diesels because a turbo charged engine is easy to fiddle with. fuel/air mix and the boost points/pressure are all easily controlled.

With a naturally aspirated or supercharged engine you are limited to more mechanical things which are always more expensive so bigger supercharger and engine work.

Best bet with an NA engine is help it breath and get the gases out fast so panel filter and a free flow, cat removed exhaust. Shouldn't cost too much.

The other side of performance, which people always forget, is suspension and braking. think about upgraded pads/discs, braided hoses and refurbing suspension bits as that will allow you to drive the car quicker and better through improved handling.

I disagree massively. I got a very easy 60bhp increase in power just with a remap on my PETROL Audi.

And that's the point. We are talking about MB here who tend to use superchargers rather than turbos.

As i said, turbos are easy to boost power on. I had a Subaru which i had mapped and jumped 60bhp too. Also had switchable boost mapped in for fun days and motorway haul.

My point was on the car in question (C180K) a remap will not have that sort of effect and I stand by it.
