CLK 270
Hi all. My first post as I need some help from someone brighter than me.
When I use my indicators the whole cowling including the cruse stalk twists. It is really annoying.

I tried tightening the clamping screw but that did nothing.

I needed to replace the stalk as the indicators were not staying on and so I have it stripped down.

I have found the problem now.

On the end of the steering column outer is a bearing housing. This is where all the indicator, cruse, etc attach to. It looks like it is a press fit onto the end of the outer.

It is this housing that is rotating. I can see no means of securing it.

I'm sure it should not turn.

Has anyone any ideas how to remedy this?

I will take a pic tomorrow.

Cheers

This is the part I'm talking about

The brighter part at the end of the column outer that hold the end bearing.
This is the bit that is swivelling.

Any way after sleeping on it I had a couple ideas.

One was to put a big blob of araldite on it but that felt like a bodge.

So my solution is simply a small self tapping screw.

I measured the housing at 5mm thick and so drilled a suitable size hole in a pace that would not foul with anything else. I made sure it was only just over 5mm deep by wrapping some tape around the drill bit at the right depth.

I then screwed the self tapping screw in until the housing stopped twisting.

Not too deep as it may foul on something inside.
