This evening as I was driving along the left indicator came on even though the the indicator lever was at neutral. I then indicated to the other direction and that came on - the other went out. When the indicator lever is back in neutral the blinker still blinks. The hazard warning switch works OK with all four indicators blinking. I don't know if its a coincidence but the left had side (xenon) headlight went out at the same time although I had had an intermittent warning of bulb failure some time before. It would have to happen on the 22nd Dec!!  Has anybody any ideas please?? My first thought is a blinker relay. Any ideas would be most welcome.

It sounds like the stalk has contamination across the switch terminals. I've seen this on another brand of car and stripping, cleaning an dregreasing the contacts fixed it.

I can't see it being the relay as that is for all operations and is before the stalk iirc.

Thanks Dieselman. Yes it is the stalk - this morning in the cold light of day I tried gently pulling on the stalk and lo and behold the indicator stopped blinking. Will now try to dissassemble and clean.
Happy Xmas
Nobby
