Hello all

Iv had this idea in my head for some time that when i finally got myself a big luxo barge id have the injectors cleaned at some point. Not doing it myself but a proper "ultrasonic" clean.

Iv found one or two places doing them at a reasonable rate, but iv got to remove them myself and then send them away for a couple of days. I dont mind doing that as the cars not a daily driver.

But how hard is it to remove the injectors on a big 5.4 engine, especially one with a Kompressor sat on top of it? At a very quick scan i cant even see them on my car, lol.

Nah, not really. But im one of those who sometimes like to service things that are normally neglected. I mean injectors are not exactly on top of everyones service list, but id like to think that after 105k on the clock they could do with a scrub.

In others cars i use to sometimes use these so called "injector cleaners" in the fuel and never really noticed any difference. But reading through the manuals of this car MB specifically mention not to use fuel additives, so i thought id get them taken out and cleaned properly.

Or are you saying its not really worth it till they actually start playing up?

It just seems really random... Petrol Injectors rarely cause any issue at all.

Its a classic case of risking doing more harm than good by disturbing or breaking something along the way.

As above, they are unlikely to need 'cleaning' - why fix it if it ain't broke?

Ok, so it seems that i might aswell leave these well alone then. Like i said, theres absolutely nothing wrong with the car in the way of starting, driving or performance. Its just something that i thought the car could do with, as if the injectors are only working at 80% efficiency for example and im down by 40bhp then for all i know its all good coz i have nothing to compare 500 bhp with.

Im looking into getting a remap done anyway, and a possible resonator delete, but i thought id get the car upto 100% first and then get that done. But if you all insist on leaving the injectors alone then i might just get a cat or two removed instead.

Whats the general power increase from a cat and resonator removal anyway?

I just want the car to be a little bit more lively from low revs/speeds. At higher speeds/revs its an absolute missile, but lower down it takes a bit of a grunt to get moving, probably of all that weight im guessing.

You may want to be careful with a CAT delete with the new MOT rules.

You could always have them emptied out though.

Whats the new rules, if the CATS missing altogether then its an automatic fail regardless of the emissions???

I suppose il just get them emptied out so it looks like they're still in there, but the whole point of getting a cat replacement pipe is that if you dont like what happens to the car then you can always put a cat back in.

no point pulling things out and cleaning as you will more than likely damage something else in the process, these cars get very hot and gaskets and plastic bits begin to break down

Exactly.

I suppose thats a very good point about plastic bits braking down to to heat and age. Have had experience of that in the past.
