After another spell of toying with xenons but not wanting to have to fit headlight wash etc. and having ruled out HID kits because of the light scatter problems; I've settled on Philips Diamond Vision "Ultimate Xenon" H7 bulbs so that the beam pattern remains correct. What do you guys think?

I fitted a set of these high performance bulbs but found neither lasted very long, so the original bulbs are back in place and still going strong. Could it be that increased performance shortens the bulbs life?

You can get side light bulbs to match as well, I fitted these at the same time & they have lasted unlike the headlight bulbs.

Aren't the Diamond Visions illegal in the EU and hence if they were checked would fail the MOT?

Well they are not e marked, but how many times have you seen an MOT tester check a bulb for an e mark?

Unlikely but who knows, the tester may notice the bulbs look very bright and decide to check.

My other concern would be if you had a bad accident at night or in poor light conditions and the insurance assessors decided to check the bulbs. Insurance companies will do anything to get out of settling a claim.

When I had mine fitted, at the MOT I got an advisory that the headlights were just on the limit and may need adjusting. After putting the standard bulbs back, the headlights have never been mentioned at each MOT.

Thank you all for your comments so far. A few observations now it's dark and I've had chance to use them.
The light is extremely white blue, certainly as white as xenons (The bulbs are 5000k).
It is made by Philips for H7 lamps and therefore the cut off is perfect and there are no hotshots or glare. I've walked around the car at different distances to spot glare and there is none. On my test drive no one flashed me on dual carriageways or indeed on narrow roads. The bulbs live up to their billing as ultimate xenon effect bulbs, however, I'd be surprised if they lasted as long as normal bulbs. My car is due it's MOT next month so we willfind out if it passes or not!
Two points on the insurance front; "Insurance companies will do anything to get out of settling a claim"- as someone in "Insurance", that isn't true. They will not pay out for modifications that aren't declared but they would always pay out for insured losses and expect good client satisfaction for doing so. That said one does need to declare if you have modified your vehicle. I have declared "lighting modified-unspecified". ie I've done something but I've not had to say what it was and there was no additional premium. HTH
