Hi guys,

I just bought my first MB, 2001 CLK 230K Avantgarde and looking for a decent insurance company. This is my first car bought a registered in the UK. Haven't got any experiences with local car insurance market, would like to ask all of you MB owners for an advice.I've checked few on-line comparison sites and always good value/money companies were having terrible feedback while claiming, more expensive ones haven't been any better. I'm confused! (even without .com) :)

Living in Cornwall, doing about 9000miles per year, but once a year driving to Central Europe.

Thanks for help!
Peter

Hi,
There are obviously lots of factors to consider when companies give a quote, but as a comparison I have just purchase and insured a 2000 CLK 320 convertible with Direct line, Fully comp, both over 40, Full NCB, Self and wife(CHEAPER), Living in Cardiff for £229.00. This includes driving other cars(TPO), buisiness use with an excess of £500.(Voluntary)
Personally I have had good experience when making a claim on my household policy and would recommend them, but everyone will have different levels of experience with all insurance companies and Brokers.

I dont think Direct line quote on the comparison websites but their website is pretty straight forward.

I've always found "More Than" to be competative when compared to other companies and the policy benefits on offer.
I have been with More Than for many years and claiming is never a problem and they have always proved to be quick and polite.
Cheapest (apparently) is reported to be Swiftcover although exactly how they compare with More Than I am unsure.

BTW...........Welcome along ! ! ! ! !

I am with Tesco and when I had my accident, the process could not have been simpler. I rang them once and that was it, they dealt with it all. Very impressed.

My brother is with Swiftsure and the fact you can print off your own cert. and make changes quickly and easily online is a great bonus. No waiting for the post to tax your car etc!

Must confess I'm a DirectLine man, their website user-friendly and have been very competitive on price & benefits. Also, my other half gains the NCB too. No claim experience though (touch wood ;))

This thread is going to be a list of insurance companies, each coming with a recommendation from the poster and a few replies later we'll be told how xyz insurance is rubbish.

IMHO ring them all and get quotes, it's the only way to do it.

Yes, use the comparison sites, but first list what you want from your insurance, e.g legal protection, coutesy car and so on.

Cheaper offers might not include cover that you want.

In your case driving to central europe should be investigated. All policies provide legal cover in eu countries, but legal might not include very much! Some offer full cover year round with others in between these two.

If your central europe destination(s) include non eu countries you will almost certainly be charged more. Need to look into this before taking out cover.

Thanks a lot guys!

I've already made a list of what I really need to cover and working on finding the right insurance company for me.

There's no proper drive without a silver star! :bannana:
