Interior light opening boot

This is a strange on,

I set the interior lights to come on when doors open.
I got out of the car at the shops and hit the remote to lock the doors and I took several steps away from my car and then, click and the boot opened:confused:

I walked back to the car, opened on it with the remote and closed the boot lid. I hit the button and walked off again and then, click, same again:doh:

I turned interior light off completely and locked the car with remote and no probs :wallbash:

I don't know if it has any relevance, but the previous owner converted the lights to HID. This has effected the side lights and main beam. I'm planning to remove them and go back to original.

Any ideas:dk:

Do you have a 3 button or 2 button remote fob and is there any damage to the fob buttons?

You might have a fault in the vacuum pump, does this happen every time you lock the car?

If you have the cars Users Manual, look up Global Locking, it explains how to program the remote to open only the drivers door and fuel flap… try this, on the remote fob, simultaneously press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons for about 6 seconds, the Red LED on the remote should flash a couple of times, the next time you unlock the car only the drivers door and the fuel filler flap will unlock, the other 3 doors and boot should remain locked.

Repeating the above procedure will reverse the programming so as the next time you unlock the car, all doors and fuel filler flap and boot will unlock. The boot lid should only swing open if the boot button on the fob is used or the boot lock keyhole is pushed inwards or the boot open button in the cabin is used.

An alternative to the above is to lock the boot with the emergency key blade by turning the boot lock key hole a quarter turn clockwise to the Horizontal position and extracting the key in the Horizontal position. This won’t cure the fault and it won’t stop the vacuum pump running but it will stop the vacuum pump from opening the boot when it shouldn’t.

Hi Dec,

I have a 3 button, but you have given me a thought, it could be the vacuum pump.

I noticed the other day when I was actually beside the car when I opened it and it sounded like the vacuum pump was still pumping for about 10 seconds or more after the doors were opened.
I could hear the fuel lid unlock a few seconds after the door and then the boot a few seconds after that. I'm wondering if there may be an air leak or the pump is slow and on it's way out? Also the boot lid when closed took several attempts to get it to catch.

Any thoughts Dec?

The boot lid needing several attempts to catch sounds like it might need an adjustment of the latch, slamming the boot lid shut automatically locks it as the jaws of the lock clasp the latch (square Ring).

When you lock the car, leave the fuel flap open so you can observe the fuel flap locking pin to see how long it takes to shoot out.
When you lock the car with the remote the vacuum pump should run for about 2 seconds…
All the door pins should drop almost immediately…
And the fuel flap pin should shoot out almost immediately…
The boot is already locked the last time it was slammed shut so nothing happens to the boot when you lock the rest of the car.

On unlocking with the remote, the door pins should rise up almost immediately and the fuel flap should unlock almost immediately too, if any of the doors or the fuel flap are slow then there might be a leak at the slowest door/ fuel flap/boot.
2 to 4 seconds is ok for the pump to run but any longer doesn’t sound good.

It’s important to know how long the pump runs for when you lock and when you unlock.

It’s also important to know how long the pump runs for when you unlock the boot with the fob boot button or with the cabin boot release switch. Note, the vacuum pump plays no part in locking the boot, it unlocks the boot by fob button or cabin switch or the act of pushing the lock barrel inwards with your finger.

Thanks Dec,

I'll check it out tomorrow and see how long it takes and check adjustment on boot lid.

Dec,

Can I pick your brains on another subject?

I just dropped my wife into the town and noticed my auto box was jumping back and forward through the gears. It was changing from 2nd to 3rd and over revved to about 2500 rpm then change. It's now jumping from gear to gear when you hold 1500 rpm 1, 2, 3, 2, 3.
Any ideas? It just started doing it 15 - 20 minutes ago?

Would gear oil need top up or replaced?

Sorry Shane, not a clue, suggests you start a new thread, sounds a bit serious.

Possible MAF fault.

re. the boot opening when locking the car!!

do you have Keyless Go??

My S500 does this if my wife puts her purse in the boot (with the spare keyfob in it) and I lock the car with my keyfob, it releases the boot because it thinks I have closed the boot with the key in it by accident as detects the spare keyfob locked in my wifes purse in the boot!

Since having my car on STAR this problem has gone :)
