R280
Good morning all,

First time poster and MB owner, so please be helpful and gentle...

I bought an R280 yesterday and I am having problems connecting my iPhone to the bluetooth receiver in the car, I have tried disabling/enabling almost every function on my iPhone - but to no avail, they do not recognise each other :(

I also have SatNav, but says 'no dvd, insert navigation dvd' - so I presume I need to buy the discs? Also, and this is really dumb, but where is the disk drive? I've had a quick look in the boot but can only see the spare wheel, first aid kit, triangle etc.

And finally on a trim level, where is a good place to source the clothing rails that fit across the rear of the car so I can hang my suits up? I'm also trying find a suitable safety net...

I presume they come with model numbers etc to facilitate the different sizes of cars, where would I find the details?

Many thanks in advance, sorry for being a complete novice for all things MB, but I had to start somewhere

Many thanks

Lee

Bluetooth - are you sure you have a bluetooth receiver int he car? If you do it will be in the centre armrest and connected to a small connector. It sounds like you do not have this option as connecting an iPhone is 'usually' straightforward.

Sat Nav - sounds like you need a disc (they are expensive, so I would go back to the seller and ask them for it). The disc is inserted into the slot above the Comand screen (which can also be used seperatley to play CDs).

Can't help with the suit rack.

Welcome tot he forum and always glad to have another R Class owner here!

Depends on the year of the car. A MY09 will have harddisk based Comand NTG2.5 with full bluetooth connectivity built in and no nav disc, the maps are stored on the harddrive. How to pair a phone will be in your Comand manual or see: Mercedes-Benz Bluetooth Connectivity

If it is older it was have Comand NTG2 and will need UHI phone pre-wire plus bluetooth adapter to pair a phone and it takes a navigation dvd which goes in the Comand unit.

Hi,

thanks for the answers so far, timwood 2000 it definitely does have a bluetooth dongel in the centre console and thanks to the link provided by npuk I know have full iphone connectivity...it's easy when you know how!

I've got a disc on the way and had already worked out where it went (thanks), got misled by others saying it was in the boot.

Only one last daft question, I'm trying to change the digital dash display to sho MPH instead of KMH and also the dash clock. Going by the manual only brings up basic menus like language etc.

Thanks agin for your help guys, you really helped me out :)

Changing the smaller speed display readout from KMPH to MPH can only be done with STAR coding on UK cars. You need 'UK mode deletion' done on the cluster. This will let you change the speed readout between mph and kmph and also if wanted display the outside temp on that line.

A main dealer wont do it for you. You will need to go to a specialist like www.comand.co.uk who know how to do it. Some cars cant have it done, Comand will adivse if yours can.

I believe kph display is because the speedo doesn't have a display of km numbers, only mph.
I spent ages in my first c-class trying to change that display without success, only to find it is essential if you hop over the channel
