iPhone bluetooth

Does that mean my lovely new HFP cradle is now defunct?

No, Apple are bound to issue a fix for the software, it affects too many cars, and for sure some of the execs at Apple have Mercedes and BMWs

Also, the apple iPhone cradle only pairs with iPhones (which is a real shame) as its cheaper than an HFP. Id have charged more than an HFP and included pairing with everything and iPhone charging ...

the apple iPhone cradle only pairs with iPhones

Richard

This is something I often wonder about ..why design a cradle that on pairs via BT with one phone -- my Motorola V3 cradle is the same -- only pairs to a V3 via BT.....madness or commercial sense.??

I'd like to know too. Actually I'd like to know how one can make it work with Motorola phones only. The adapter must make use of the BT device name info the phone gives. Perhaps if I fooled my phone to show it is a Motorola V3, it would work? The only thing that comes to my mind is intellectual property, licensing costs avoided some way. I assume the Motorola phone anyway works with other BT car kits like a Parrot etc. Meaning the BT implementation at the phone side is following the generic BT standard.

excuse the stupid question:o
but will the iphone cradle in a phone pre-wired car allow for the ipod part of the phone to be used i.e. music playable and visible on the COMAND?

If you have an iPod kit and an extra connecting cable it does.

The bluetooth 'only pairing with certain phones' is marketting - the motorola cradles (that use BT) are about the same price as the fixed cradles.

However, the iPhone cradle is a lot more expensive, and thus i'd have made it do everything since its just software preventing it. It pairs, then drops the connection and says something funny (sorry cant remember), so it is reading the device manafacturer ID (i assume there is one).

Id pay extra for a iPhone cradle that could pair with my other phones !

No. As soon as Apple fix the address book download issue (that seems to affect many makes of cars) then the HFP will work fine with your iphone(s)

Hi all this just in from MB!

In order to provide the full comfort and exciting features of the new Apple 3G iphone, Mercedes-Benz will shortly introduce a kind of adapter for the existing iphone cradle (A204 820 2351). I'll keep you posted.

Please note: Apple 3G iphone in conjuction with ipod kits

In opposite to the "old" Apple iphone and all ipods the new 3G Apple iphone cannot be charged with 12 V but only with 5V. The ipod kits B6 782 4502 and B6 782 4503 are already designed with a 5V charging function. For all other kits an extra charging cable is required, the part number is: B6 782 4531. Mercedes-Benz recommends that the cable exchange is done at the dealership.

The new Apple 3G iphone cannot be charged with the exciting Media Interface Cable. Mercedes-Benz is developing a solution for that as well.

iphone S/W V2.01 is out.

I've loaded it onto my 3G but alas the phonebook download with an HFP still does not work:(

I think I will contact Apple directly and see what they have to say about it.

Thats very interesting....I drove for about 8 miles and still no phone book:mad:

I'll try a different cradle and unpairing/repairing.

Do you mean it takes 5 minutes before the phone book is available or did you just happen to look at it after some five minutes? It already feels too long with my BT SAP device, if it took 5 minutes, I wouldn't even say it is working (better late than not at all though).

What about last calls, are those available sooner?

Nope, still doesnt work for me. Pah..........

Might have to reflash the phone controller or try a different 3G phone.

Update
I kept pressing the up/down arrow - kept getting "Prosessing" then about 5 mins later while I kept trying up/down - everything came up - phonebook - missed calls - etc
Then today nothing - but it did happen last night - drove for 50 miles - made calls - received calls it was all there - weird

So has it stopped working today? Perhaps the phone book was cached somewhere before and now its not and wont reload? Who knows. all I do know is, it worked under S/W version 1.1.4 and now under 2+ it doesnt!

What car and head unit have you got? Sounds like an Audio20 to me.

There are still complaints from MB, BMW and other drivers in Apple forums. This is an Apple bug, until they fix it my original iPhone will stay on version 1.1.4

I tried the 5 minute test - definately doesn'y work. Roll on v2.1

Same here luckily its unlocked so i never use itunes to update it, and it's fine with my HFP ceadle. Shame as i have a new 3G iPhone still in the box that i can't even use.

Bizarre - driving to work today, did nothing different, and up pops the phone book (in duplicate) and all the other stuff - having not done so before since v2.0 was resleased. There is no logic to this! I'm using a 3g now btw.
