Chaps and Alfie,

Just got an Iphone 4. I have a W203 C55 AMG. In my old W203 C180 I had the ipod kit and was really impressed with it.

So am I right in thinking if I want to use the iphone 4 with the phone prep, I need to buy the cradle, that has the 15cm lead and also buy the merc ipod kit? Then the lead from the phone cradle plugs into the ipod kit? Is that right?

Also if the above is right, am I just best installing the ipod kit into the armrest rather than the glovebox?

Cheers,

Terry.

Yes above is right if you want to use the iphone for both phone and music functions.

As to whether you can install the ipod kit in the armrest I guess it depends on if the ipod kit connection lead is long enough and if there is enough space for it all.

Cheers.

So if the cradle is in the armrest and iPod connector is in the glovebox, is the MB solution just to have a trailing cable between the two?

ive just done this, it doesnt matter where the ipod kit is as the main cable which would connect to the ipod control unit to the ipod is replaced with a new one that fits onto the 15 cm cable which comes out of the iphone cradle.

So where did you run the connecting cable? Is it on show?

When Alfie fitted my iPhone cradle he ran the connector to the (already fitted iPod kit behind the COMAND unit) under the armrest/centre console. No cables visible.

i done the same, ran the cable from under the passenger side dash (where the ipod kit control box was installed) under the armrest, cut a hole for the plug and plugged the 15cm cable into it, no cables showing.

the part number for the cable from ipod kit to cradle is a2048200304 priced at £34+vat from the dealers. It has a RJ45 type plug at one end and then the plug to fit the cradle on the other (its actually made of two cables plugged together).

i`ll take a pic of my install to give you some sort of idea over the weekend.

Nice one cheers!

Bit steep for a cable, will have to look at making my own one!

You are better off with the iphone4 cradle with the 30cm lead as this allows for a neater installation. This does though mean to remove the iphone phone cradle later it is a bit more involved than simply unplugging the cradle.

Also beware there are three iphone phone cradle to ipod solution cables. One for cars with media interface, one for earlier ipod kits and one for the newer kits. They are not interchangeable.

Hi Terry, not sure how you would do that , its not a normal ipod type cable, its some funky connector thats on the end of the 15cm cable on the iphone cradle.
