Iphone IOS 4 and contacts

I have a 2010 W212 E250 with Navigation 50 and bluetooth telephony factory fitted.
My new Iphone 4 with OS4.1 (8B117) :

1. Pairs succesfully every time via bluetooth to MB Nav 50 :)
2. Downloads all contacts from Iphone to Nav50 ok everytime :)
3. Plays music from ipod part of iphone 4 via media cable in glovebox :)

4. But when dialling out they cant hear me or I them
Then the MB drops the Iphone/Nav50 bluetooth connection leaving the
Iphone4 connected to the person who I dialled, who still cant here me or I them:mad::mad:

The only option is to then unplug the iphone from media cable and end the call manually on the Iphone and swith off the Nav50 system.

My local MB dealer tried their Iphone 3GS (os4) exactly the same happens
Not the hands free experience I was expecting

Does it do the same thing when not connected to the media interface?

Yes whether connected via the media cable or not the same thing happens.

1.MB dials out using Iphone via bluetooth correctly.except you dont hear it dialling through speakers allthough Iphone says its using MB speakers.

2.As soon as the person being called picks up the call they cant hear you or you them.

3. The MB then drops its bluetooth link with the Iphone leaving the Iphone connected with the person on the other end (who now thinks its a crank caller)

4. The MB then re-establishes the blue tooth link and says its ready for telephony (thats a joke)

5. Meanwhile you then have to end the call using the Iphone by hand (not a hands free operation)

Great music player via MB media cable, useless as an incar bluetooth phone.

I am guessing this is an Iphone OS 4 issue not an MB issue

Success!!

Over the last week and with help from Vodaphone & MB we have sorted this out.
By unpairing the Iphone4 from MB bluetooth system
Deleting all phone contacts from MB Nav 50 system
Rebooting the Iphone (hold top and front buttons down for 30 secs)
Reparing the Iphone4 to Mb Nav 50 system
reloading contacts to MB

The Iphone4 now works perfectly with the MB bluetooth system.
All phone contacts uploaded to MB ok
Doesnt drop bluetooth conection at all now
Speakers work in car fine I can hear those I call with clarity
MB even mutes the Iphone4 playing music via the media cable when you answer/or dial out.

So I can recommend Iphone 4 with 2010 Audio 50 APS with DVD navigation system
as fully working

I have W204 COMAND. Worked perfectly with my iphone 3gs but after upgrading software to IOS 4.1 Bluetooth connection constantly drops and reconnects even when full phone signal. I have spoken to Apple who say the update does make changes to Bluetooth and that COMAND people need to provide update for their system to keep up to date. Great - I pay £2k for a sophisticated COMAND system which now no longer works satisfactorily. Apple give me an update that screws the system up without any warning but won't let me go back to the software which worked flawlessly. My advice to anyone with an iphone 3GS is NOT TO UPDATE to IOS 4.1.
If anyone has similar problems or has a fix please let me know. I have carried out a full restore on the iphone and have re-paired the MB Bluetooth with the phone but the problem remains.

Is it a similar problem to the one above (from post #121 - )?

You could try the solution detailed in post #124

Guys,

After picking up my C63 eveything is perfect other than the fact I cant sync my contacts from Iphone 4 to the comand system and if someone calls me on it then I only get the ringtone coming from the phone.....Now Ive read all the posts tot his thread and the one for Apple near the begining of this thread and am non the wiser on how to fix this problem. Im not a technical junky unfortuantely but would really like to get this resolved. My Iphone has just got the new 4.2.1 upgrade but hasnt made a blind bit of difference. I have rebooted the phone, gone back into command to scroll down to Importing External Data which is how I believe you up load your contacts (I dont have a craddle this is all done by bluetooth) and it doesn't allow me to select this option. :wallbash:

Any ideas on how to fix this it is doing my head in and I have been on it all day today!

Thanks:wallbash:

Guys Im going to take a trip back to my dealer this morning and ask them about this issue with the Iphone 4. Is there anything I need to mention to them about how they need to resolve this?

Many thanks

Ask them to ensure that the 11/2010 firmware update which just arrived is installed.

Ours arrived last week, so they may not be aware of it yet

Richard.

Do you think this will resolve the issue Richard?

Thanks

If you don't have phone prep, then you have to manually load your contacts to the COMAND with a PCMCIA card or a Blackberry etc.

Hi Simon,

Yes I had the pre wiring done on the car but they dont yet do a craddle for the iphone 4 yet. I took it to MB today and they said that I would have to wait till the craddle comes out and then upload my contacts with that and hopefully that would also resolve the ring tone issue coming from the phone only.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem since swapping my 3GS with an Iphone 4. I have to admit you got a better treatment from MB. My dealer (in Brussels, Belgium) basically told me it was a problem with Apple and sent me home....Before trying the solution would like just to double check:

1. "unpairing the Iphone4 from MB bluetooth system" - Do I unpair the MB Bluetooth from the phone or from the 50 APS?
2. "Rebooting the Iphone (hold top and front buttons down for 30 secs)" - You are describing here a hard reset to factory. Do I pair the phone before restoring it on iTunes or after?

Thanks for this. Really hope I can fix this problem. Has been a nightmare using the phone in the car since I got the iPhone 4 (except the bluetooth LOVE IT). Have spent all day looking online for hints and solutions - as I said my dealer didn't do much to help me

Hi am posting this one again, hopefully Azazael will read the message and answer my question....

Sorry al2813 been away for X-Mass

1. "unpairing the Iphone4 from MB bluetooth system" - Do I unpair the MB Bluetooth from the phone or from the 50 APS?

I unpaired the I phone from the APS 50 by deleting its entry using the MB on screen menu and deleted all the contacts.

2. "Rebooting the Iphone (hold top and front buttons down for 30 secs)" - You are describing here a hard reset to factory. Do I pair the phone before restoring it on iTunes or after?

Then I rebooted Iphone (hold top and front buttons down for 30 secs) and then loaded all my stuff back on using Itunes sync command

Then I repaired the Iphone back with the MB APS 50 using a code other than 0000 and it reloaded all my contacts.

Since then its been fine but I still have suspicion that Iphone Bluetooth connectivity is flakey and believe resetting the Iphone reset its bluetooth settings.

Also a quicker way maybe to switch the Iphone to airplane mode and back again

Hi Azazael. Thanks again for this. I tried your procedure over the Xmass period but not exactly the same way you just described. I will try again. Thanks! I also started another post just for this issue as the original post here was about another issue.
