Hi
I have ordered the ipod interface kit and the holder, £165.00, its going to be fitted next tuesday at mercedes watford, and they have never fitted one before! (maybe i should take it to another dealer who has fitted one) has anybody fitted one and how much did the dealer charge for fitting?
also do i need to be aware of anything?

thanks in advance

not sure of your car? I have a W203.

Tell them where to stick the cradle (politely) or they may put it in an inconvenient place. IMO it needs to go on the top shelf so that the manual still fits in.

Ask them to use a grommet if they have to make a hole into the glovebox else the wire will chafe.

FWIW i paid £225 + VAT for kit and fitting on a new car (excluding cradle which was 13 pounds something.

Will the Ipod kit work with the pre face lift w203 command 2, or do I need to buy the dension version?

blassberg where did you get it installed, because the dealers i have spoken to say it could take about 3 hours to install the interface, and at 98+vat for 1 hour of labour, that is £325, plus the £165 for the kit.

It was installed at Mercedes Corporate Retail's Wellesbourne delivery facility......

They are supply only, then you go to dealers.

£225 +VAT = £264.38 for the kit installed suggests I was charged £165 for the kit plus one hours labour.

Ive been quoted space age prices too ... There is no way id pay £490 for it , plus a new ipod

how much would it cost for a delaer to add a CD changer?

The unit would cost £350, (retro) fitting would be extra

And you would only get 60 tracks of info if you paid £75 for the 6 CDs

Just need to compare Apples with Apples (gedit?) :)

or install it yerself...

It wasn't that difficult, plenty of pointers on the web.

The hardest part was taking oof the air vents.

Bit late for your tuesday at the dealers - sorry , but fwiw, I was faced with similar problem as local dealer had not then fitted one, so did myself.

As smeeeee says, not too difficult as advice is around on the web. I recall that my local dealer had 2 hours estimated for the install on the C class, but could be a lot more on other models esp if have to run cabling from front to back of vehicle as I believe some models require.

blassberg has good point abt holder, tho I didnt even stick mine in, just put the ipod in it & the cradle is still loose on the top shelf. The only other advice is that the dealer needs to tell the OBC that a phone is installed, even if one isn't otherwise buttons on the wheel won't work.

yep - same here - I 'unstuck' mine and now the manual (out of the folder) keeps the cradle in place.
