Is Distronic worth having?

Just picked up my new W212 four days ago and it has distronic plus. Was unsure about it, but I really wanted the Active Blind Spot Assist. In order to have the ABSA, you must order the Driver Assistance Package though and that includes Distronic Plus. So, after 4 days of sporactic driving, I can say that I really enjoy using Distronic. It is quite amazing how it works. I liken it to when we first started using Cruise Control (just showing my age!). Some people thought it would never catch on. Now I would never buy a car without cruise control and Distronic Plus is an enhanced version of cruise control. One day we will possibly think it too is essential?

I'm a convert now.

I did 180 motorway miles from Dumfries to home without touching the pedals, other than a couple of times where events were happening so quickly that I felt the need to take over (even though the car would have coped).

You do need to be driver aware though in some circumstances, for example, moving to an empty nearside lane can leave you hurtling up the inside, appearing to undertake everyone .

I share the views above, being don't knock it till you've tried it.

Drove up from cornwall and stopped in crewe then continued on to Scotland and managed just with speedtronic set to 70mph and never craved for additional support from the car. I tried the cruise but prefer resting my feet on the pedals. What impressed me most was complete silence bar the climate control blasting.

Hello Steve,

It's completely different and a completely different driving experience.
You can use it on A roads in lines of traffic too.

Really, you'd appreciate if after a try I'm sure.

Shall I lend you my car for 6 months? :D

You're right it is a completely different driving experience. My new W212 also has eco start/stop which is equally a new experience! Now I am getting used to the engine cutting out at traffic lights and enjoying that experience as well. You really do need to try these driving features to appreciate them. It is too hard to imagine what it is like without experiencing it (said the actress to the bishop).
