Is it the MAF??? Help needed please!

Could be the link rods in the intake manifold causing a power loss.

Could be the electric motor actuator in the above

Fault codes P1622 check fuse in engine control unit
P1636 electric suction fan. P1403 Exhaust gas return. P1470 Boost pressure control.

I think that the faults must be read out

You mean I should look for these error codes? Will check and get back as soon as possible.
Thanks once again

Eurico

P.S: What did you need the VIN for?

Exactly.

To look for exact faults for your car. I have seen the same problems on other cars and the 270 engine intake manifolds

Don't know if it has anything to do with this issue but car now takes a little bit longer to start. Before it used to start same way hot or cold, winter or summer. Now, since visit to dealer, it takes like half a second longer to start. Starts fine though. I phoned dealer and he told me they did nothing else than checking for faults and erasing them but he did notice this when car was in the bay and thought nothing of it because it was sitting and idling for quite a bit of time. Later today I will get a copy of the faults sheet and will post more info.

Got the data by fax. It's in portuguese (brazilian portuguese to be more precise) so I will post the codes and some translation as best possible:

CDI 2 - Common Rail Diesel Injection
P0100-001 B2/5 (hot film air sensor) Voltage too low STORED - this was probably when I disconnected the sensor for testing as per Malcolm's suggestion.

EGS - Electronic Gearbox Management
P2500 Gearbox has an inadmissble ratio STORED
P2502 Inadmissble gear or gearbox is slipping STORED

EWM - Electronic Selector Lever Module
P2000 Torque value of brake sent to traction control trough CAN bus is not palusible STORED

ESP - ...
C1145 B34 (brake pressure sensor of ESP) deviation from zero point STORED
REAR SAM - ...
B1089 CAN comunication error with A1 control module (combined instrument) STORED

There's a detailed information on errors P0100-001 (self induced MAF disconnection), P2500 and P2502.

This is all I found. There are other errors related with the air conditioning (K-KLA error B1460 and B1021), upper control panel (OBF error 9021), audio and door module whch I don't believe have anything to do with my issues, but you never know...

If you need any more info I will obviously and very gladly post.

Thanks for all your help
Eurico

Reset them and see what comes back. None of those seem relevant.

Actually on second thoughts the gear ratio implausible bits are worth looking into.

I'd be looking to change the electronic plate.

Malcolm, Dieselman and BlackC55
Could it be the valve chest or any of the solenoid valves?
Can anybody please point out the sensor plate on the Russian EPC site? Is it expensive and hard to fit?

Thanks

Thanks for your advice DieselMan, I've been looking at prices for this MAF, Eurocarparts is selling for approx 150 pounds + vat (bosch), mb specialist said will supply and fit for 180 pounds all in (bosch i think-will recheck), but on ebay there is a london supplier selling at 35 pounds + vat (not bosch)...ok. which one would be recommended?

Don't go for the pattern part, it won't work properly or for long. either of the others should be OK.
As the fault isn't totally conclusive pay for the fitted one as then if it doesn't fix it, and they recommended it iirc, then they can take it back off again....

Brand new developments!
Took the car to MB dealer for code reading and possible diagnosis of maladies affecting the gearbox. No error codes found except for P2000. As this is related to ESP and had to be connected to another complaint/error (as per dealer), it was put aside.
As such, dealer took the liberty to do a so called gearbox adaptation and asked me to check in the next few days if things where normal. Using the words of Star Diag, does this seem "plausible"? All my concerns where due to the gearbox not "adapting" itself to the engine? I do find the car much, much better. Will, in your opinion, this last?

Thanks once again!
