Is Steering Wheel Stitching Issue a Warranty Covered Item?

Is that really a big deal? I’ve walked in on 3 employees in varying stages of getting jiggy. They stop, look embarrassed apologise and leave. Xmas party, drinks, office.....

It was just a joke, never mind.

My my mate Dave wants to know if there are any jobs going at your place?!

Ok guys, steering wheel was replaced in its entirety in less than a day.

Washed vacuumed and returned to me with a full tank of diesel, had around a quarter tank left when they took it.

But it’s come back with a fine scratch along the d/s door. I’m waiting for a call back from them regarding this.

Well this is going from bad to worse. The car, with the steering straight is pulling left now on roads it never used too!!

Omg, this is bad bad news..
So from faulty stitching you came to fine scratch and steering issue. Feel sorry for you, I would be more than gutted

Are you sure it's actually pulling? Or have they put the steering wheel back on slightly off centre?

Gutted is not the word!

They called me at 7pm to say they haven’t seen the driver yet. Not sure why they need to see him as it wasn’t listed on their inspection sheet as damage.

On top of this they still owe me my refund for the holding deposit but that’s another matter which has been dealt with.

Yes this could be it. I can only say that if I hold the wheel ‘straight’. The car goes left slightly. It’s not the road ‘shape’ as it would drive straight on the same roads before.

I’m anal about this as I had a car once that used to pull left because of accident damage.

Can it be that he’d to put the wheel back on?

I’m no mechanic but in my youth modding my MR2 turbo I switched the wheel and didn’t have any problems with it!

I hate it if the steering wheel is slightly off centre..

The steering column has alignment marks and if they match up with those on the steering wheel boss everything should be straight.

Don't all MBs pull any longer?

They can still pull but I can't see how removing/refitting the steering wheel could cause the car to now pull left, other than them having fitted it a spline to the right. Meaning when the steering wheel is held perfectly straight the car will actually be steering (as opposed to pulling) left

Agreed.

I was thinking more of the placebo effect.

I’m getting so wound up I’ve gone out and tried to check the alignment whilst parked on my drive. S/wheel “ is straight and the wheels do appear (in my eye) to be pointing left slightly.

:wallbash:

Just me thinking quickly.. But.. Would it not explain they just fixed new steering wheel incorrectly?
As with wheels set to straight now, you going to have steering wheel clockwise a little off the centre, right?
Anyway, when you drive in straight road, try to let steering wheel free, regardless if it is straight or not. If car drive straight and don't pull to any side, this means it is just new steering wheel incorrectly positioned.

The steering wheel only needs to be one spline either way to give you the off centre feeling. I changed one on my Jag and finished up driving it across an empty car park with the bolt out so I could pull the wheel off the column to get it spot on. When I did the lower control arms on the CLK I had it set up on a Hunter Hawk eye.

I've heard this before from other MB dealers (at least 3 different ones).

They tell you your steering wheel is normal, when you know it is pist, and can never get it right.

You may end up taking it somewhere where they know what they are doing!

They are quite small spines on the wheel so easy to get wrong if it wasn't marked prior to removal.

A 2 min test drive on a flat area by the tech would show it was off , they obviously didn't test drive it or don't give a toss , either one is perfectly normal now a days.

Take it back and ask them to fix it , properly this time.

Another example of a 2 min check preventing another inconvenience for the garage and customer.

Kenny
