Is the cost of a Comand Unit worthwhile?

My shiny R129 comes up on my Tom Tom :)

Got a custom 'shutdown' screen image on it too.

mmm, didn't know you could do that.....will be busy with my TomTom this weekend now! THANKS!

Have seen CDs on Ebay that are supposed to "customise" the COMAND boot screen. Anyone used one? Is this possible?

I have a custom screen on my tomtom too:D

Glass's guide actually states that £1500 should be added to prices for vehicles with Comand...

I read once that some versions of COMAND can be switched to an AMG logo. I think it involved pressing 1-5-7 if I remember right.

Sadly mine isn't one of them... :(

has anyone seen the JVC exad unit?

http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/car/euro/kd-nx5000/index.html

looks pretty neat. it's a single din unit, 40G HD (with maps on the HD), tmc, support for a BT module etc. not too bothered about dvd, bit it plays those and video too. only a 3.5" display but that's still usable, and it doesn't obtruct the aircon controls or require me to hack away at the dashboard to make a double din space. and I think it looks alright.

anyone seen or used one?

You can do it from the engineering menu but I've heard that the changes dont last but I could be wrong. AFAIK, you can have at least the MB ''Star'' or ''AMG'' and change the background and text colours.

All anecdotal btw, I've never dug that deep into mine even though I can access the menu, that is a whole new controvertial ''topic'' ;) .

Portzy.

EDIT: My preference is for the built in look so to me its worthwhile, (I'd forgot about the original thread starter btw :o) . The decider for me was eyesight as I needed something bigger

I'll tell you what, I loe this:

http://www.slk32.com/pages/navigation/navi.html

it just needs some work to determine how to make it fold up from the cupholder tray instead of being fixed, so you can hide it when you park up.

or make a little "hut" with a roll door that could go on top of the centre console dash there to put a little tomtom in :)
