Is there a hidden menu in COMMAND 2.0 ?

I want to see if I can change the blasted map so it follows direction of travel rather that North up. It's a serious shortcoming. You should be able to display the map in non-nav mode and be able to follow the direction of travel. I found it very useful in my Lexus so you can see alternative roads to turn into to avoid jams or go to petrol stations etc.

You are missing the point mate. Most of the time I don't need to navigate to anywhere. It's very useful as a general map to see where you are and what is in the general vicinity. You've obviously not had sat nav before other than COMAND. It's so useful.

I know what you mean. I quite often do this if I'm in an unfamiliar area, but don't need nav ...

... but it can't be changed. There was a thread a couple of years ago on mbworld and the general consensus was that you were stuck with the existing mode.

Another thing that bothers me (not hugely, but if I was the designer ...), is why not put the date and time on the FM and AUX screens. It's not like there's a shortage of screen estate ...

Thats what I find so useful with the TomTom Go compared to the Travelpilot, you see where you are and whats around as well as any corners or junctions approaching.

Set the comand up to navigate somewhere - doesn't matter where.

Once its sorted the route out, change the map so its follows the direction of travel (left click wheel, 3rd option down I think from memory).

This then is also the default display for the non navigating mode map display.

I'm sure other methods are about, but I can't recall them. As always RTFM.

Because of the difficulties I thought the COMAND was different between the E and the C.

Ours is set by default the way culpano wants.

It's in the menu when the screen is in "map" mode. Map scale is at the bottom. Click on this and the full menu comes up. It's the one up from the map scale. Click on this either to display "N" or the diamond which puts it in direction of travel.

This is only while navigating though, on the position map while not expecting directions it defaults to the N map.

Yep it defo defaults back to "North Up" when in map mode even if selected with navi as directional. Absolutely stupid this is. Who manufactures the COMAND unit ? I'm going to contact them.

Gary, so did you follow saorbust's directions above? I haven't had time to yet, but will later, just to confirm.

I thought I had RTFM and indeed spent some time with the unit trying to get it do this, and researched it extensively ... coming up with the answer that it couldn't be done.

Maybe, as John says, they fixed it in COMAND units destined for other models?

BTW It's Blaupunkt, but as they don't develop the current DVD-based COMAND units, I don't think they'll be too bothered

Checked this tonight; without any doubt whatsoever, you can only change the direction when in Nav mode. If you just select the "Map" option, the orientation is always North Up.

Obviously different on DVD-based units, but with COMAND 2.0 at least (maybe even upto a certain serial number), we are stuck with one orientation in Map mode .

I've had COMAND in a 208 CLK, 209 CLK and my E Class. So both CD and DVD based systems. You can do it in all systems I assure you.
