hi all,

is this fuel line, coming to/from the fuel pump a high pressure one? i.e is it imperative that it's put in tightly?

The thing snapped open when i opened an union on the fuel pump.

It does click back in, but when I push that white clippy thing in, it kinda jumps out (i think it's supposed to lock when I push it in).
I can't get the other out to check how it works exactly and if it matters.

Any wise words from anyone?

Thanks in advance.

It locks when you pull it out, not when you push it in.

Yes, correct, does it have to be tight though?
I think the innie bit snapped and left a bit inside, it clicks back on ok, albeit with lower sealing strength. Is it ok to drive until I get a replacement for it? What is that line for?

I have to disagree DM, as the O ring is on the bit stuck in the pump body.

You need a new one Im afraid. main dealer only afaik.

You are correct Guy, I hadn't spotted the centre section was broken off.

Ok, well there is a bit stuck inside I think, i'll try to fish it out and superglue it to the clipped end, it's quite a clean break, I will replace of course, and the damned breather hoses, hence the oily mess.

Opening that fourth fuel pipe union on the pump, it snapped open and cracked the plastic.

Because you hadn't pressed the clip in, so had to waggle the fitting to get it off.

Have you replaced any pipes, if so heat the pipe, pull the fitting off and do the reverse to fit the replacement.

Ur on about the bit left inside right?
So is it ok to use the car now? It doesn't fall off or out, but it doesn't seal as it did.

It will suck in large quantities of air.

If it's taking in air, it won't run and will air lock. The dealer should have the pipe in stock.

Just wondering what your stripping down, I hope your not going to replace the hydraulic lifters to cure the knocking noise ?

:)

No, I was replacing the rocker cover seal, but i think it's more the breather hoses spuing oil.

Turns out it won't start, it nearly fires, it did for a bit, but it died after a minute. Hopefully it's that pipe. I can't have messed up the fuel line configurations could I? What order do they come out of the pump?
DRAT!

Are MB dealers open on bank holidays?

Sounds exactly like that pipe is leaking air. Wil take a lot of cranking now to get it going, get another car or jump starter battery ready.
