Hi all,

Having an issue with a Honda CR-V that has got us a little stumped..

Basically theres a noise from the rear of the car when you take your foot off the accelerator.. its perfectly quiet when you give it throttle.

We put the car up in the air and simulated this and noise coming from diff.

So changed bearings in diff. No difference.

Ordered second hand diff.. This comes and the company i bought it off swears blind it was silent as they test drove the car it came off...
They even gave 6 months warranty with it.

The new one is making exactly the same noise and its definately from the diff..

Anyone have any ideas, do you think i just have another dodgy diff or are we missing something?

Check all the mountings for the rear drivetrain and suspension. It could be a bush allowing vibration under deceleration.

A stethoscope should reveal the source of the noise. It may be some distance away but traveling up the propshaft for instance.

could it be a rear wheel bearing but the noise is only apparent from the diff casing.

hmmm, im not sure plastic ones work very well for this use ;)

its usually the rear diff oil, end of. I forget the name but you need to use the specific oil supplied diff oil direct from Honda. cost around £8 for the 3/4 litre tub. the service interval is around 120k but diffs start with this issue from as little as 50k

well it said ATF in big letters on the diff!? In the end we just left it noisy as it was not economical to be refurbishing it...

If ever you get a new shape Prelude 2.2 Vti in as a part ex Jay , will you let me know ? ;)
