I've let my 2.5-16 go to a new home today

After 3 1/2 years of ownership, I decided that I want to move on and try some new cars out.

Never gave me any real bother in all that time, great fun to drive and a great ownership experience.

The 190E was a fantastic car, but I guess I couldn't keep it forever. Miss it already though :o

So - now the hunt begins for the replacement...

Oh man, that was an awesome 190e cossie... Just hope the new guy/girl takes as much care of it as you did....

Any ideas and what you'll get next?

C63???

I'm sure I remember you saying you would never sell it ....

I genuinely thought that as well to be honest. It was the longest I've ever owned a car for which must count for something.

But I guess I couldn't keep it forever :o

It's gone to a very good home over in N.Ireland. I'm positive he'll look after it

The 2.5-16 was a very nice car but I feel that it was holding me back from experiencing a good few other cars out there. The time was right to move on :)

I never expected to hear that!

Anyway good luck in finding the right car.

R129

I would suggest a nice late R129-rumoured to be based on the W124 floor-pan and designed pre 1989 :thumb: before the bean counters held sway. A fitting conveyance for a man of your mature years.;)

I was only admiring the pics of your car recently, and thought "I bet that will never be for sale"... wish I'd known.

I remember the last time we meet, you discussed selling the 190, but you still werent sure.

So now its gone, what you looking at now?

I'm guessing a CLK55.

Good luck with the hunt for the 190's replacment, and keep us informed.

She was lovely! Thank you for the drive last month :)

It's a bit of a head vs. heart situation for a replacement. Quite a bit of choice out there for my budget.

I've been really lucky with the 2.5-16. I can recall many cars that I desired when I purchased it that were well out of my price range. Where as the 2.5-16 has been a good investment, I would have lost thousands on some of the other cars. Many of those cars are now cheaper than what I sold my car for.

I might try a V8 AMG of some description to chalk one of the list (I've thought about them many times in the past, but never got round to owning one). Slightly put off by the rust issue mainly, but I do have my doubts as to how well they'd hold their money. Perhaps I could try one for 6-12 months or so, if I buy sensibly it shouldn't be too costly an excercise considering my minimal mileage etc.

Not as much fun to drive, but an R129 SL500 wouldn't be a bad bet if I could find one that I liked for sensible money. Shouldn't really lose any cash from now on I wouldn't have thought - they've got to be about rock bottom IMHO. Plus sides being that they've got the classic MB 80's build quality and styling, and they don't tend to rust in the same way as most of the 90s-00s MBs :(

I've got a slight itch for an older aircooled 911. I blame a guy that I work with who got me interested a while back. The minimal-zero depreciation should outweigh some of the running costs, and considering I do so little mileage it doesn't seem like a totally unrealistic option. Nice classic which I would like to experience - probably not everyone's cup of tea. I think that would be more of a long-term prospect hence I'm considering trying a couple of cars out before I'm tied in.

Maybe a 500E/E500 if a nice one appeared and was well priced?

Any suggestions or advice would be welcomed :thumb:

Peter's CLK AMG?
Spend £300-400 sorting out the rust and I would hope if you sold it 12 months later you would lose little money in depreciation.

I have given it some consideration :)

Mr. Ironside has a nice W124 500 avaliable for £12,950...

Mercedes-Benz E500 Porsche Built

Yeah, I've seen that on there in the past. Looks nice but it's still high-mileage/(km-age!) IMHO. I know they can do it, but 300k+ is pushing it for a collectable car IMHO. It's not worth £13k to me in light of that.

Isn't there one somewhere at a dealer that was bought cheap out of ME magazine a couple of months back?

there's an expensive one here:
