whatever you do dont upgrade to itunes 8 if using windows vista,i did this the other day and have major problems, albums splitting up,cant add artwork, artwork gets removed automatically, when i looked on the net there are 1000's of posts saying the same.again a case of a major software programme being released before it is all working right, let the public find the faults then sort them out, windows all over again.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

From what ive read on the net its only vista that gives the problems

is there anything that can be used instead of itunes

In conjunction with an iPod you mean, rather than standalone?

I believe you can use an iPod as a flash drive, and drag and drop your music files on to it, but I guess you wouldn't have playlists, coverflow, etc.

i hate itunes

too complicated for its own good

So agree there, they try and make it idiot proof but it's beyond me sometimes:o and I'm a compatant P.C. user!

Dont see how itunes is complicated... comand is complicated:crazy:

My Vista runs OK - there is a bug with the mouse however, won't change pages after clicking - or other actions until you move the cursor off the button/link.

Has anyone played with Genius yet?

I've tried and it doesn't seem that good tbh. It's very good at pulling up other music I shoud buy from iTunes but not at creating a playlist from my exisiting library!

,albums splitting up,....

This is almost (note I said almost) certainly down to the meta data being set up incorrectly or with missing fields etc., it's apparent in 8 because of the new view/grid/sort options etc.

The trick is finding out what is amiss - the unscientific way I use is to find an Album that is set up OK and then do a side by side comparison - laborious but has always worked so far.

I had similar problems when cover flow was first introduced.

By the way I like the fact in grid view I can now sort the albums by year.

I have had Apple stuff now for 5 years - having been converted from my PC that kept crashing! For all this time, my computer has never crashed. All my Apple things work perfectly. Between us we have 2 laptops, 1 desktop, 2 iphones, 1 ipod, 1 nano (for now). I use my ipod to play music via the radio in our Mercedes and so gone are the days of piles of CD's cluttering the seats.

I find itunes has run perfectly for me.

I think you will find the OP was advising against using itunes on Vista ....

And? What's wrong with other's experiences? Actually useful for people to see the problem not affecting Mac users surely? By the way, I just put 8 onto my Mac Powerbook...it's great :bannana: (so there)
