I've got the POWER! C350CDI

Dieselman, I have been thinking about what you have written....is there a way of beefing up the weak link?? i.e the gearbox. Does the C63 have the same unit..ish

Thanks in advance, Matt

Pre facelift C63 has the 7G auto and the facelift has the MCT-7 'box.. both somewhere around 600nm torque. Don't think there's anything you can do for the box really that won't cost a small fortune

I believe the Torque max for the [C/E] AMG box is still 700Nm. The 63 lump produces 630Nm as standard. The Brabus upgrade adds 20 to that bringing it to 650 - still short of the 690Nm that the Brabus upgrade gets from the 350CDI (albeit the power on the AMG is 75% more than the 350 CDI).

The DMS tweak takes the torque to 718Nm (according to their website), but I also note that they claim 800Nm for some variants that Brabus stick to less than the 700. Go figure..

On the 65 variants and the biturbo 6.1 (V12) the Brabus torque outputs are in the 1000Nm range, so presumably a different box.

Probably as well off just to go buy a 63, or consider that you likely only really use the extra performance for about 0.1% of the time you are actually in the car.

The Brabus upgradefor my car, GL420CDI, lifts the torque to 800nm.

Anyone know what gearbox my car has and its torque rating?

More than likely you'll be running a 7G, the torque rating for that is 700nm, but then the Brabus parts are only warranted for 3 years, 60k miles so after that it may develop issues but I suppose it depends on how hard you drive the car?

I had my 2003 6 in line E320cdi remapped about a year ago, estimated torque increase was from 500nm(370 ft lb) to 570nm(420 ft lb) +14% and power increase from estimated from 204bhp to 244bhp (+19%). Seems like I am just within advised max torque figures.
Increased figures are still estimated because their rolling road was broken on the day and I intended to return, never have because the increased torque and power are very obvious. It can be quite hairy on a damp surface changing direction say overtaking, and the ASR seems slower to react. Tail out very easy to do.

Also fuel economy improved by 3/4 mpg as well.

No problem with Insurance, a modest increase.

However, am now trading the car in and not comfortable leaving the remap on for next owner. If the dealer 'loses' my supporting service documents (the car will be auctioned) the next owner could have insurance problems in the event of an accident and investigation; so having it put back to standard.
I'm moving on to a V6 642920 engine and probably won't bother with a remap.

Hello All, I have managed to fill up all the spaces for the group remap and I have seen many smiling faces because of it......even in the snow. (always good to have an excuse for sideways action!!!)

however..... if you want to take advantage of the deal as a MB member you can. Horay!

Please call direct via the number on the website and tell them your M B name (i.e NinjaMatt1) and quote Hereford and you will be looked after.

Thanks for all your interest and comments...some useful....some not....happy motoring etc etc....Later Matt

You might be better off starting a new post for this. I assume despite that you have placed this in a thread mainly to do with remaps, that you have not modified the EMS. I am sure some people will say it's to do with your right foot but in my experience (E350) I've come to the conclusion that that's how it is. If it's a 10 plate, put it back to the dealer and get them to check all the SW - there are updates to fuel pump etc. as well the EMS but these made no difference in my case.
Check up on the cycle manufacturers use to get the fuel figures and then emulate that - see how close you can get. Look on Fuelly - for a C350 CDi (not many reports) but it's about 30-31.
I'm the same as you - my previous E430 did 23 with a merc combined rating of 24 so almost bang on. In my E350 I get 31 with a manufacturers rating of (combined) 44 and Extra-urban of 51. These figures are a complete joke - with a warm engine, flat road, hold it at a steady 60 for 10 miles I can't get beyond high 30's. I was minded to challenge Merc to drive it and prove they could get close to the figures but I've just accepted now that this is how it is.

Fuel figs are not that bad on the motorway the car is doing about 44MPG at 70ish, at hyperspeed as you would expect around 32MPG.

Cheers Matt

DMS are very pricey £595 + VAT when I had asked for a quote very recently.

Your consideration is admirable...

Open question - would the ECU not have a date stamp for any upgrade, which if prior to the-then owner's knowledge, one would not reasonably expect that owner to check for such a thing?

A very good point M'lud! :p
