I've painted my calipers!

You can tell! ;)

Pitts Pilot. You have done an excellent job there,& a good choice of colour. The reds & silvers look to “boy racer” for someone my age. I will do mine the same mat black. Did you used Hammerite mat black?, also where did you get the decals from.

Bruce has a very valid point, and is probably correct in what MB's response would be.

However, how often do Brake Calipers go wrong in the first three years of the OEM's warranty period?

Virtually Nil I'd say!

So one could assume painting them properly, or paying for it to be done is a reasonably Safe Bet as far as getting caught out on the likely hood of a warranty claim.

I selected metallic black which gives a matt-ish-satin finish which looks great IMO. One spray tin did 4 calipers, 3 thin coats each.

The camera's flash lightens the photo. It's actually black!

I used two brass wire brushes (A large one, and a small one for those tricky areas), and blue masking tape from Wicks that has more 'tack' than regular beige tape.

See my earlier photo of the polythene sheet with a small hole cut in it that slips around the caliper. I found it helpful to turn the steering wheel for each front caliper to get better access.

Using a small dinner plate I cut out a semi circle mask of cardboard and held it up and sprayed the disc hubs in no time at all. An extra well worth doing.

I found that a thin coat of paint needed 4 minutes before applying the decals. Hopefully the touch-dry paint will hold the decals in place better.

Finally, don't forget the two aerosol cans of brake cleaner to get the brushed calipers absolutely oil and dust free. Local auto shop...

Have fun :)
