Jag

I like it, interiors nice too.
But an S class has more interior space though.
Tony, what are you on about?
They're both very different and good cars.

sorry i just like mercedes that much thats what im on about. be good when you can actually drive.

That's what I was thinking too, why the feck would you compare a luxury barge mile muncher with a C63?? :D

C63 vs M3 vs RS4 vs IS-F

XJ vs A8 vs 7 series vs GS vs S Class

There was a survey done a couple of years ago on one of the motoring TV shows, they asked the general public which was the most prestigious car out of a line up, there was a 5 series, E Class, Lexus of some description and an X-Type, and the Jaguar although the cheapest was picked by 80% of the poll.
All my mates laugh at me now I have bought another Merc, for most it is seen as a brand that their Dads apsired too, for some strange reason they all thought my Audi of all things was a much nicer and more desireable car.

You need to really know Mercs to appreciate them, but not as many do as we think.

no body likes Mercedes now days, you dident know that, every prat wants a 3 series or a4 or a6 or whatever it is. that's what young people want, in Essex every chav under the sun drives either a 3 series or audi FACT

who cares about polls and what other people think. but honestly you can get away from the fact that every 20 year old something estate agent essex boy drives a audi.

I feel obliged to chip in here! :)

Marque loyalty is quite rational, and indeed commendable.

Marque blindness (or blinkering) is something else entirely!

For the record, my motoring tastes and requirements are quite eclectic. Different things appeal at different times and for different reasons.

I have to say that in my M-B experience, the two problems which I have encountered in my ownership - rust and spring breakages - never happened in any of my previous Jaguars.

Jaguar shed that rusty image about 20 years ago. I bet M-B wish they could say the same.

Now, as for that new XJ ... roll on an estate version!!!!

Well said corned.

I think MB could learn a thing or 2 from Jag. The designers in particular deserve a big well done.

That car looks very pretty.

I don't think the same can be said for the new E or S classes.

If I had to choose, I think I'd have a new XF or XJ over the current MB offering. :ban:

your porbly right and bang on the money, still 4 new springs and some paint. and your sorted, in my case whole new suspension from eibach and 2 new wings ;) my grandads jag used to break down literlly every single day OH and cut out on steep inclines, this was from new as well :) my 156k mileage c180 on the other hand...still going without even breaking down. ;)

Jaguar had a large plot at the Waddington Airshow I went to a couple of weeks back. I test drove the new XJ a mid range model. I've also drove a new s class 350.

Sorry to say the XJ IMHO was the better car to drive and I also think its more stylish inside and out. But this is only based on limited time with both vechiles.

the 350 is a great engine but to small for the car in my opinion. maybe a 5/600.
back to the blinders speak. i also feel that British people get blinded by British cars i think in many scenarios including a Benz or jag a British person would pick the jag, just my observation, i have family (distant) who do the same,

you need another forum from the sounds of this. but you do have that astra in your sig. or vectra lol. sorry i just thaught this was a benz forum. still id have a C63. nope id have a c350 over the jag

But it's a f*ckin quick Vectra :D Ex Police unmarked car still with all the toys used for driver training, reason? If you bend it, it is very cheap to put right and also its a perfectly balanced car for teaching security driving you can throw the weight from one end to the other for J turns etc.. Try doing that in a C63 and see where it gets you I think MB forgot all the lessons about weight ditribution with that car, compare it to a BMW M5 ( little bit unfair I know) its not in the same league in terms of balance and technology but I agree it's better than an M3.

Yes it is MB Forum but its not exclusive to MB thats for instance is why there are sections like off topic, general discussion and other Marques.

I love MB but am not blinkered to the excellent achievements some of the other manufacturers have made both in the present and in the past.

Oh and regards the signature there will be a 380 bhp Audi A8 joining the line up shortly (Bugger thats not an MB either is it )

........... dashes off to join Audi Forum as did not realise it was mandatory to only speak of MB on these hallowed pages, my sincere apologies to all who may have been offended.;)

Saw one the other day followed by a Range Rover with police motorcycle outriders, on the A316 near Richmond heading south, so already being used perhaps by Royalty or senior politicians.

I like this Jag, looks beautiful inside and out. If I had the cash for that level of car, it'd certainly be in the top 5 to look at. Just wish I had the cash to be in that position!

Just FYI the only Jag ever based partly on the Mondeo platform was the X type now discontinued.

Yes, knowing Ford though, this new Jag could be based on the Transit chasis:D:D

And didnn't all the motoring press say the Mondeo beat the C Class, 3 series and A4 for ride, but it was always going to be a Ford??

I am the only Merc owner on the street, I get the feeling be able to afford one attained some affordability.:bannana:

Others drive a Honda, Audi or a Saab. One got a Beamer 5 on lease found it more sensible to own one and bought a Passat.

To me buying a Jag will be driving something from Tata in disguise as being British Jag with tax payer money injection.

None of the new line-up have any real Ford connections at all. The diesel engine is PSA sourced iirc and is very good indeed, but that doesn't make them Citroens. I think Jag have realised that in order to survive they need to evolve, and although this has upset some purists, they really have been very successful, and now have a superb model range. It's just a pity that the new XJ won't be getting the superb new 4.4 V8 diesel that is going to be fitted to Range Rovers for the 2011 model year. I think not to acknowledge Jaguar's achievements would be unfair and anyone who says that the only reason so many people buy Jags is because they are British is misguided. Although the XF didn't do particularly well for reliability initially, they now seem to have ironed out the problems and they are really rather good now. I must say that I wouldn't mind an XF or an XJ for that matter, after seeing one in the flesh today I can confirm that the XJ is rather better looking in reality than in the photographs.

Get real. Tata are ten minutes old. Jaguar are 65 years old.

Tata was founded in 1868.

Tata Group | Our heritage

An Indian company disguised as British.

Jaguar Cars Ltd., better known simply as Jaguar, is a British luxury car manufacturer, headquartered in Coventry, England. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Indian company Tata Motors Ltd. and is operated as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business.[2]
Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars before evolving into passenger cars. The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II due to the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials.[3] Following a merger with the British Motor Corporation in 1968, subsequently subsumed by Leyland, which itself was later nationalised as British Leyland, Jaguar was listed on the London Stock Exchange and became a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index until it was acquired by Ford in 1989.[4] Jaguar also holds Royal Warrants from HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Charles.[5]
Jaguar cars today are designed in Jaguar/Land Rover's engineering centres at the Whitley plant in Coventry and at Gaydon in Warwickshire, and are manufactured in two of Jaguar/Land Rover's plants; Castle Bromwich assembly plant in Birmingham and Halewood Body & Assembly near Liverpool.
