Jag

My mercs are made in Germany with quality that why I bought it!:D

Jag are craps managed by shrewd and pinchy Indians. All they are interested are profit like Satyam.

Quite sweeping statements you have made there Jason so this is the last post I am going to make on this topic.

As you know many Mercs are made abroad including in the USA. They have had there fare share of quality problems in the recent past - just ask W210 owners or myself - I had a C32 a few years ago which I adored but unfortunately was riddled with problems - thank goodness the car had a MB warranty.

Jaguars are made in Britain and I believe Tata are well capitalised - the plans they have with Jaguar and Land Rover over the next five to ten years are actually quite exciting and they seem to be looking to the long term, from what I have read. As a FD and business consultant I believe there is much we could learn from companies like Tata. These companies seem far more effective in making international acquistions and they seem to have made a good go of JLR.

To me, a functional product, such as a car, matters not where it was designed or manufactured or even who paid for that, but how the product performs.

If your Mercedes performs to your satisfaction then that's a good news. If a Jaguar performs to someone else’s satisfaction then that's also good news

In thought Jags were made in Birmingham by British workers??

I don't think they're managed in any more of a shrewd way than Mercedes are - indeed, I highly doubt we'll see the rust issues develop on Jags/LR's from their shrewd Indian management in the way Mercedes shrewd management cost cutting resulted in a drop in quality a few years ago!

Being interested in profit is not a bad thing - the only way the British workers and the numerous British suppliers will stay in work is by Jaguar/LR making a healthy profit! For our country, this is surely good news??

Simple. Not everyone can afford a Merc. It a nobility to be a merc owner. I am the only Merc owner on my street.

I'm sorry but that is simply gibberish. You may well be the only Mercedes owner on your street but that is more likely to be because others have made a conscious choice to spend their money elsewhere or it's a very small street:dk:

There are seven Mercedes owners on my (not very big) street and some of them have spent more on their car than I have on mine and others have spent less. Like it or not a Mercedes is a mass-produced product in the same way as most other cars which one sees from day-to-day. Owning one does not classify the owner as nobility.

You may of course have been joking but I sense not.

I agree with that, however, plenty of people spend more each month on other metal, it is not the prestigious and unreachable brand that it once was.

It a nobility to be a merc owner.

Are you saying you have to be a noble to own a Merc or owning a Merc makes you noble??
Either way I think you are doing a great job of proving that is not quite true.

I am the only Merc owner on my street.

Ever thought that maybe it is because you are a Merc owner that no one else on the street wants to associate themselves with the brand? ;)

In my street a neighbour has a DB9 convertible......don't think he would regard my Mercedes as a better car..

Clearly there is no intelligence criteria for purchasing a MB

No. If MB ever wanted a clear demonstration of the eclectic mix of MB owners out there, this thread would suit the purpose admirably.

I thought that he was foreign from his spelling and grammar, so I doubt it is racism.

He doesn't have to be British to be anti India!!!

I should probably apologise though. It is a strong accusation, made without proof. The bigotry displayed against India and Jaguar threw me...

Jags are just great. I bought a brand new X-Type 3.0 AWD back in 2004 and yes, it did use some Fords components but nowhere near as many as internet forum folk lore suggests! It was a great car really, very smooth and refined. It picked it's feet up when it needed to and the 4 wheel drive was a very nice touch.

Just before buying this CLK 430 I actually considered an S-Type R, which is an absolute animal! Amazing value at the moment too.

I don't understand Jag haters. Especially if they've never owned one. It's as British as a Sunday roast and always will be. It really doesn't matter who provides the finances.

I wonder what the point of view would be if Mercedes bought Jaguar?

Do Ford actually make crap cars? I may be wrong but I thought they made pretty decent cars. If so, I really don't get it!!?

Good Lord - thanks to those on this forum who have replied so robustly to jasonyw's posts. For a minute there I was quite depressed that I was joining such ranks as a MB owner. It's quite refreshing to see that the majority are rational-minded, decent people!

I agree, out of all the car forums and marques, I expected MB to be one devoid of 'Fanboys'.

How wrong was I?
