Jaguar Track Day - Gaydon Warwickshire

Quote:"Next up the XK-R supercharger, this time we were allowed to open up a bit more.... this was much better!!! It had a great deal of punch and the convertible really felt like a proper GT, only managed to get 170 on the clock so not quite as quick as Carnut....how on earth did you manage 174?"

....About twothirds of the way around the bend put the power on so you get a good flying start onto the straight.

You however probably had a head wind today which would have held you back by about 4mph; the guys at Gaydon change direction around the track on a regular basis to counter this when testing cars.

Glad you had a good time ( nice weather this today) and if you weren't that impressed I loved to take a passenger trip in your car sometime!

i only got 2 pens!!! Must do it again..any dropouts let me know

Lets have a local GTG!

I returned home from work today to discover an answerphone message from a chap at Jaguar HQ. He wanted to ensure that I had received the invitation and to confirm my attendance.

Needless to say but the call was immediately returned. No way was I going to take any chances of them cancelling my place!

T -60hrs and counting!!

I received a very nice call from Owen today, checking I could still make it.

I had a lady checking I was still coming....didn't catch her name :D

It was Chris assuming it was the same lady that called me at about 9:45 this morning.

I will phone tomorrow and cancel you all and get myself in again!!!!

Only kidding . It was a " once in a life time" kind of thing so enjoy yourselve and please report back:)

Wind and showers for tomorrow - so don't see anyone beating your 174 or driving the convertible with the tops down.........

But should still be a great day .......I'm quite excited........:D

Been to a place just a couple of miles away today, and got to go again tomorrow!!??

Still tomorrow will be more fun than looking at caravans!! ;) :D

I failed on both accounts unfortunately - 170mph (in both cars) and lifted just two pens!!

It was an absolutely outstanding experience and would love to repeat it again some day. Luckily the rain held off until after we had returned to the reception area and so did not spoil the day.

All of the driving was fantastic but I particularly enjoyed the 0-100mph acceleration down to the cones (fantastic to park behind a XKR and watch it disappear in a few seconds!), the flat out speed attack and then the hard braking for that 40mph bend at the end of the straight.

An truly unique experience and well worth the 300 mile roundtrip from Brighton.

A few pictures of our day can be found here

Thanks once again to crockers for bringing this event to my attention!

A great morning, so a big thank you to crockers for the tip off.

Had a most pleasant time to say they least. Only lifted two of the pens too - I went for the kill but backed off when the lady on the desk explained that far too many had been taken and they had hardly any left!!

Also it seems the cars are limited, albeit at 280kph rather than the more usual 250 kph. The car was still accelerating albeit slowly when I last looked at the clock - at 170mph (indicated).

A moment or so later a limiter intervened and it wasn't soft enough to be power, gearing or aerodynamic. Didn't really matter, as a moment after that it was prudent to get on the brakes.

I forgot to say, because the drivers used for these types of events are mostly self-employed, there were a few drivers from the AMG events.

By chance - well slightly engineered by me stepping forward at a strategic point - I dropped for Phil for the Diesel Dynamics session, and who I've got to know quite well. Got Andre on the high speed runs who I've driven with before.

Phil's doing the Porsche sessions at Silverstone next week, so I may see him again soon.

What Porche sessions!? is this another opportunity?:D

Just came back -- and it was snowing before we went out.....had a great day and got the XFR up to 170 - the XKR I backed off at 155 - still trying to work out why the XKR is £12k more than the XFR when I personally felt the XFR was much nicer to drive.

Found the diesel very smooth - would have liked to have taken that out onto the roads..

Got two pens too + the one in the goodies pack making 3... :D

OH and what is this Porsche event -- do tell ...:D:D

We had a couple of 'official' photos taken in the proving track beside each car and apparently some were taken as we drove our fast laps.

Does anybody know when and how we will receive these photos???

I was told on the day that they'd posted on the website. No sign of them when I looked yesterday.

I remember seeing you TEX277.

The photos have been uploaded to the Jaguar website and can be found here

I am quite surprised by how few pictures there are for each day (considering there were 3 sessions per day). I think they must have only selected pictures of the 'beautiful people' (see http://www.jaguar.co.uk/uk/en/_popu...ay6.htm?route=_uk_en__popups_Track-Experience@ middle row second from the right)

Thanks Tex, I'm not shown any where!!! But that bloke your with looks a right minger....:D:devil:

Mark.
