Jumping fuel guage?

Hi, I have a Merc 190 (1988). The fuel guage is really jumping between empty and its current level.

Any thoughts on what I can do to fix it? I was thinking in the direction of replacing the fuel tank sender unit. But had no luck so far in tracking one down.

I think I know where you can find one with no problems at all! Your local stealership parts counter!

Same In the 300CE only now it realy is broken I have 3/4 of a tank all the time...

I had the jumpy needle, i used a bottle of Forte fuel treatment sorted !!!!

Actually, it was you put me onto it!

the usual cause is a bad or dirty sender unit. I had the same problem on my 400e. the needle would jump around the half to empty mark. A new sender fixed the problem.
