Just bought an ML320 - Service help?

Hi all.

I bought an ML320 a couple of weeks back, and so ar it's been great. Let's not talk about petrol though ;)

So anyway, I tend to perform a lot of the general service work on my cars myself. I'm *not* a mechanic, I work in IT, it's just that cars are a passion of mine, so I do what I can.

I wanted to do a service on the ML yesterday, and successfully managed to change the oil (how on earth do you do it without getting the old oil all over the suspension/steering arms?!). But when I cam to changing the plugs........I couldn't work out how to do it. I know it sounds stupid but I couldn't work out how to get the cover/top section things off. So...rather than break something, I head off to the local car shops, to buy a Haynes manual. Only to find......there doesn't seem to be one. Also, I can't seem to find anywhere on the 'tinternet any help.... I found a Russian site with some engine diagrams but they weren't much help.

Anyway the crux is that I need to know how to get the plugs off, and other bits and pieces too. if anyone could point me in the way of some "How to's" I'd be really grateful.

Thanks all!

Google mercedes 320 spark plug removal one of the yank sites has a good write up.

Open end of 17mm spanner to prise the cap off the plugs., then unbolt coil pack from rocker covers lift whole lot out of the way and in you go.

Then prepare to leave skin all over the engine:D

Not really that bad just fiddly.

Quite a lot of people suck their oil out via the dipstick tube, very easy and very clean.

Wife had an ML320 a few years ago and the mpg was amazing so low! used to average 17mpg, and that was on the same run that i get 22mpg in my current car, but as 430 will do nearly 30 on a run ml320 must be good for 25mpg again on a run, bet it must be in single figures around town.
