Just fitted Sprintbooster

Alot of people have said the diff on a auto car is much larger then the 6speed.

When mine is in tip mode the peddle is alot more touchy, Then when in D.

So I think thats how the peddle would be at all times, As for the time you want it smooth, peeps use the winter setting to sort of, turn off the SB affect.

Interesting responses from many. I was unsure at first of the claims made for such a device, but since fitting SB it has cured the problem of 'lag', and feels much more of a pleasure to drive especially when stopping and starting, and the different way the car now responds going up through the gears.

Yes when you read that it confirms its all psychological, and that has to be the case.

How can it all be psychological when it actually has a physical effect? It replicated him mashing the throttle when in use without having to do so.

In summary it allows you to bury the throttle without having to do so. Most of the time you want some acceleration without having to get all aggressive, ie when a quick overtake is being done, not a quarter mile at Santa Pod.

I don't know why people get so huffy about it, Mercedes have been doing brake assist for ages, this is SprintBooster in reverse, people tend not to brake hard enough so the electronics make up the difference. People don't go around saying brake assist is psychological do they? Sprint Booster is an aid to swift driving without having to decide "right I am going to floor it" at every overtaking opportunity.

At the very least it allows you to be smoother and use less effort for the same effect. That's what he is saying in his paper. What's wrong with that?

Anyway I'm off to disconnect the power steering now, it doesn't make me turn around corners any quicker after all.

:D

Out of interest have you ever tried one?

Regards

Andy

It's horses for courses I suspect. I quite like the progressive nature of the throttle response. In low speed maneuvers especially it makes for smooth driving. I initially thought the SB would make the car faster, but this seems not to be the case, just the throttle response more sensitive, giving the impression the car is faster.

Having read what it does, I imagine it wouldbe necessary to inform your insurance company of the fitment.

Knowing they cost so much to buy, it seems disappointing that it dispenses with the safety-net of dual sensing of accelerator position.

I doubt the safety factor of the sprintbooster making safer overtaking would make them lower their prices unfortunately. :(

I was very sceptical, and I read all the threads before I decided to buy (second hand off ebay for £103).I was worried what it would do on my 55, particularly at low speeds. However, I have to say that it is fantastic. And yes, my fuel consumption has definitely gone down...I just love the instant acceleration that it gives when you bury the throttle. Before it would kickdown, now it just accelerates to the red line then it changes down. Totally different, and great fun!

It doesn't - neither does it put them up ;)

Mine is in the bulkhead so it takes about 3 1/2 seconds to take out. For this reason I didn't tell the insurance/also heard you didn't need to. However, having done a job on the insurance industry (professionaly that is, no shotguns involved - I'm a consultant), I know how they will try and use any excuse not to pay out. However, from your quote Pammy, it seems you have actually spoke to them. May I ask which company you use?

The Sprintbooster does what it says on the tin. It doesn't add performance on paper, but what it does is that it alters the feel of the car.

I love mine. Would never own a Mercedes without one. Fair enough if you had tried it and took it off. However, how many threads have you read across the forum boards that SprintBoosters were removed from cars because people who bought them didn't like them?

It might be a 'gimmick' in theorectical sense, but it does work brilliantly in the real world where your butt dyno is by far the most accurate measuring device of how fast you are going.

Who cares what the so called 'purists' say?

Do you mean that you are now getting more MPG or less? Sounds like more but I think you may have meant less..

Adrian Flux ;) I explained axactly what it was and how it worked and they were happy - no effect on premium. Insurance is Norwich Union brokered through AF.

Mine is through Privilege and I rang them and asked ages ago (see sprintbooster main thread).

No increase in premium and it is noted it is fitted.

Adrian Flux are typically very mod friendly though.

Cheers, I am with Adrian Flux and just coming up for renewal, (which is actually very competitive), so I will inform them. Sorry I meant to say my fuel consumption has gone up...but hey, you only live once and I didn't buy the car to follow mondeos.

Thare document linked to on the prior pages is extremely interesting, but doesn't thow up any surprises about the device does it? I thought his description of the device, was pretty much what people were expecting from it?

Spot on.
It does exactly what is says on the tin.:D

But it doesn't. The company's website is full of misinformation in order to imply the product does more than it actually does.
