As we know, my C230K is a 4 clinder 2.3 litre, RWD, forced induction saloon car.

I am waiting for a test drive (the benfits of a company car are calling me) in another 4 door saloon car that is also a 2.3 litre forced induction and not FWD.

On paper it looks good, I imagine it will drive well, my opinion will be down to a "touchy feely" inspection I think.

Guesses as to what it is?

Mazda 6? or

Saab 9-5? IN fact the more I think about it, the more I reckon that's what it is.

About the only one I can think of that ticks all those boxes is the Mazda 6 MPS. Looks like a nice bit of kit, I've had a couple of Mazdas and they were good cars.

Cheers,

Gaz

SAABs are FWD, I'm guessing it's a diesel?

Doh! Forgot that but about the Saab

I'm actually thinking it's another MB as G has posted this in the General bit not Other Marques:devil:

Never trust a manufacturer that doesn't make a V8!

Well done, you were all very quick off the marque.

Mazda 6 MPS.

I had a Mazda 6 a couple of years ago for a couple of days. It was OK.

Would you get rid of your three pointy star then or keep that for fun:devil:

Wise words... but both of mine (323 and Xedos 6) had the 2 litre V6 and it was a cracking engine. Silky smooth and revs like a motorbike..

Cheers,

Gaz

V6's are inherently imbalanced and never silky smooth, even with a 60 degree bank angle and balancer shaft.

323 and Xedos 6... the memories are painful :o

323f v6 engines rock

Abit slow on the 0-60 though...

the MPS should be nice...

Yep, it wasn't a sports car despite the curvy body. Torque was non-existant as well, but it was still a nice drive.. handled well, quite quick for what it was and made a lovely noise. I look back fondly on that one, it was one of my better purchases :)

Legacy Spec B

How about a Subaru LEGACY spec B if you are in the market? Very fast and excellent handling. Good write ups in the press! :D

Don't get me wrong, I would be making lots of comprimises to go with it, and pre-inspection/drive, I don't that I could for sure...

Why do you dislike Mazda Stats?

If there were a recent RX7 it would be mine. The RX8 is NOT a new RX7!!

The early RX-7, MX-5 and RX-8 are the only decent cars Mazda have made since the 70s. Since Ford bailed them out of bankruptcy in the 90s their cars have just got worse (revitilise brand image with cheap shared platform / engined monotonous cars)- every car they make you could turn to another manufacturer and find one better in every department.

IMHO Mazda make excellent cars that last forever. Since they changed their model designations to 2,3,6, etc - they have been producing solid cars with reasonable features for the money. Their non RX and MX cars are hardly a 'spirited' drive, but they are safe, economical and above all reliable.

Mum had a Mazda 2 for a couple of years. I drove it on trips home to Australia, and though it was the best small car I had ever driven. Mother in law now has a Mazda 3 which I have driven a few times, and again - one of the better small cars I have driven.

Not sure why people have such a negative opinion of them here - are they made locally? [With all due respect to this fine country, I'd much rather have a Japanese car from Japan rather than locally assembled.]

Graham - sounds like a sensible option to me. 7th in last year's JD Power survey as a brand and 11th as a model is nothing to sneeze at.

So are Skoda, Kia, Hyundai but I won't be buying one of those soon either. There are so many exciting cars available nowadays I can see absolutely no reason to buy a Mazda.
