Just got stopped for "speeding"

If only all officers were as reasonable and tolerant as those that "happen" to appear on that traffic cops show on telly. They look like they'd wipe the blood off your hatchet for you so that it wouldn't drip on your shoes.

Perhaps they're the good ones when they play "good cop / bad cop".

Just an innocent question. Some of us here are in positions of authority.

if we are stopped say doing 50mph in a 30mph but the copper has no proof or no video evidence and says that the case relies on you to go to court and tell the truth and say that you were actually speeding .
Say the punishment is a £100 fine and six points,
How many of us will confess under oath? As human beings the tendency is to protect ones self and investment.

Now if the roles are reversed and you were not speeding but the case depends on the copper saying you were speeding in court ?

I am in a position of authority and have had to make tactical decisions which may at that point in time seemed to be the logical way forward but not neccesarily the right thing to do if you know what i mean.
Example
A member of staff just had a baby and the company was making redundancies .
Now in the lists the others were all young single men living with their parents and the redundancies had to be fair taking into account length of service and attendance records.
Since they were all similar ,the figures were moved around a little to give the new father a little advantage and he still kept his job.
A bit silly but you can understand what i mean.

In the REAL world it happens all the time. As I often remind my 3 kids - life sometimes aint fair.

exactly what i mean.
Positions of authority teachers/lawyers/law enforcement /judges / directors are all and will always remain first and foremost human beings so we should not expect them to suddenly behave like robots just because they have put on a uniform, or it is 9-5.
If their child is sick or their wife/husband has stung them for six, it will affect them throughout the working day/week

Yes. Its one of those occasions where what is morally the right thing to do contradicts basic law. Its difficult to catagorically argue strongly for either side without being seen as either a do-gooder or a bastion of morallity or even cold hearted.
If I was honest, without knowing any of the minor points in a case such as this, but just looking at it with the facts as you have presented them, I would have done the same thing and kept the young father employed.

NOW I KNOW there are arguements both for and aginst taking this stand, and indeed if he had have been sacked, he MIGHT have found a better job and got the well needed kick up the ar5e to motivate him.
I have had several things happen to me over many years that, on the face of it have appeared catastrophic, but out of the dust has emerged a better situation.
But not always.............its a difficult one.........

This was posted in another forum which I frequent

Rumble found it.... Rumble rhymes with Gumbo....

Hmm, this link makes you realise how pleasant and polite we all are to one another on this forum. I must say, my eyes fair popped at how quickly the debate degenerated into a slanging match.

Get stuffed and stop posting rubbish, you donkey.

;) :D

I must admit, it is quite refreshing to see people type properly on this site and talk about interesting topics, as opposed to things about Blue LEDs and debating whether the ebay resister 'mod chip' is worth the money.
