New S class ordered with an item described as "Keyless Go access/ignition system". Keyless access works. I am blowed if I can find out how to activate keyless go. It seems to me the place where the ignition key goes should be covered by a silver metal disk that should need to be folded back to put the key in (as far as I can make out from the manual). There is nothing covering the ignition key hole at the moment. Current dealer response is "oh I'm not sure about that, I'll ring back" (which they didn't). The previous S class had the button on the (now non-existent) central gear shift. Am I correct in assuming that (a) I am missing the keyless go button (if not the electronics) and (b) it should actually be delivered attached to the car, as opposed to somewhere else.

Next question: If I order a car with delivery on the back of a lorry, should I expect it to have 150 miles of the clock, and an existing mobile phone pairing with "Gazza" (whoever that may be)?

Next question: If I ordered a road angel as part of the spec, should I expect it to be fitted, as opposed to in a cardboard box in the boot?

Is the Keyless-Go button in the glove box / door pocket etc..??

I think you can expect milage on the car. It will have been road tested as part of the PDI and most certainly will have been driven on and off loaders on it travels (150mls does seem a bit high) The phone pairing is reasonable as that would have been tested at some point (sure, the pairing probably should have been deleted before delivery)
Unless you requested a permanent fitting for the Road Angel then, yes I would expect it in the box.

As I posted in reply to your other post, perhaps a personal collection from the dealer would have been better advised?

I have looked around and can't see anything obvious.

Yes, in retrospect personal collection would have been better, but the last Merc I bought new was delivered to my door by the salesman who sold it to me, so I thought it was unnecessary. And I didn't particularly want to go half way across london to pick up something I pay delivery on whether I take it from the showroom or have it delivered. You live and learn, I suppose.

I am pretty sure the road angel was specified as a "dealer fitted item". If it just needs to be stuck on the dash of course I am happy to do that, but I understood they needed some form of GPS antenna that didn't work behind a metallic windscreen (hence I ordered it from Mercedes rather than buying the cheapest I could).

It does sound like you have had a bit of a rough deal. I think a salesman should have accompanied the car or at least called very soon after delivery, to ask if all was well (it certainly seems not to be!)

I'm sorry I can't be more helpfull, a phone call to the dealer first thing in the morning would be high on my list !

Well I called him soon after (I think about 2pm) and he said he would call back, which he didn't. I think I should be thanking you for trying to be helpful rather than you apologizing as it's hardly your fault! I know I am partly venting as having spent that many £s cash one would have thought (a) the car would be checked and perfect and (b) if not, the customer would receive prompt attention. One problem I could have coped with, but...

I agree you have been very poorly served. Any car can have problems, though here it seems the PDI has been very slopily conducted.
There is never an excuse for poor service and my absolute top hate is some one not ringing back when they say they will.

Good luck in getting a prompt resolution, a strongly worded letter to the MD in Milton Keynes should follow, in my opinion.

OK what's happened is the Keyless Go button has been removed from the EIS, its bound to be with the dealer somewhere so get it back the push button unit actually pop's out all together its not moved out of the way

No it should not have 150 miles on the clock and it most certainly should not have any phone pairings left in it.

To test the system its sufficient just to let the car and phone see each other, pairing is not required but if its done it should be erased immediately afterward the puck uses a seperate system again as you already know.

Some cars get picked at the factory for a slightly longer test but that does not test the phone and is not 150 miles worth of testing, are you sure your car came right off of the back of a truck?

The Road Angel's are normally installed not just dumped in a box.

I am pleased with the answers about the mileage, having watched them come off the low loaders most have just up to 2 figures on them

On the new s-class, the keyless go button is removable and sits on top of the ignition lock. Sounds like it has been removed from your car.

I would not accept a new car to come with 150 miles on it, and the phone pairing is another indication that someone has been driving it for more than just loading on and off the truck and the ship.

I'd definitely refuse to accept that as a customer.

That dealer sounds almost as incompetent and useless as Mercedes Brentford.

EDIT: I should learn to read the whole thread before replying - DansSLK beat me to it

I do the same, sometimes I get so angry about the way some one has been treated that I do not see it all:)

I think a polite call to the Sales Manager, not the Salesman would be in order here.

You have just spent a large amount of $$££££ on a premium car, and they should be bending over backwards to come to you and sort it out.

I had an issue only last week with a car i bought 3 months ago second hand, phoned the Salesman (he had left) asked to speak to the Sales Manager who sent a technician 50 miles to my house to sort my problem. I was impressed.

I thought they could zero the mileage on the PDI anyway? I'd be very unhappy with that sort of mileage on the car.

I find this kind of service level for an S Class customer scary, to be honest. If MB can't treat their top end customers well, what hope is there for the rest of us?

The mileage usually can be cleared as long as it is less than 250 km (not sure if it is a direct conversion to miles). My car came with 20 km on the odometer when I left the dealer.

This reminds of a post elsewhere where a guy went to pick up his new S class from Brentford, when he got there there was a huge dent in the front wing, and the remains of crisps on the floor.
He was told not to worry as they would put it right on the first service.. It took him 5 weeks to get his money back

Well, they say they are posting me the missing keyless go part, and the tags for the Tracker (also missing, which I forgot about too until I got a call from Tracker this morning saying the vehicle was on the move without its tags), plus various bits of missing documentation in the post. The 150 miles is allegedly down to "test mileage as some cars are randomly selected for testing before leaving the factory" (similar rationale for the phone pairing); as the Tracker records every movement and it's visible on the web, I'll presumably be able to tell when the tracker docs arrive whether it was doing miles in Germany or the UK. I would however note that "Gazza" is not well known as a German name.

And they have offered to fit the road angel, claiming it wasn't fitted as they often get stolen. This appears to me to be nonsense as the unit itself is detachable, it's the power lead and possibly the external aerial you want fitted; the unit (which people steal assuming it's a TomTom apparently) can then be unplugged from the power leads. So next question: the Road Angel manual suggests vehicles with heated or UV screened front windows (including "Mercedes" - no more specific than that) need an external aerial for the GPS to work reliably. That is also my understanding of the position, but apparently not Mercedes'. I figure if I order a Road Angel from Mercedes using the part number in the S Class sales brochure as a dealer fitted item, it should appear dealer fitted AND work with whatever aerials and so forth are needed. Has anyone actually got a Road Angel on an S-Class, and if so does it need an external aerial?

[television: I inspected the body work on delivery and thankfully that appears to be one of the few things right with it!]

As i said the extended test comment is partially true they do pick some randomly but they do not put 150mi on the car nor do they carry out phone paring like you have seen.

And as you say its been a while since i've seen a German named "Gazza", Tracker is dealer installed i'm afraid so probably wont be of any use in figuring this out.

Sounds to me like "Gazza" has popped his S-Class cherry in your car.

It is just possible they tested the SAP cradle. I say that, because I know of dealers who will always install/test the HFP & SAP cradle for the customer otherwise they get phonecalls from the customer saying 'it doesnt work' - when its 99% user error

I'm surprised the PDI guys didnt reset the mileage - but as Diesel Benz says, they can only do that (on non US cars) upto 250km - not at all on US coded cars.

Is it a lease car? If so the 150 miles on delivery is to be deducted from the mileage on return and is quite normal - they get shuffled around on trade plates quite a bit.

The road angel - better not fitted as it stops it getting nicked in transit.

timskemp: It is not meant to be a lease car. It is meant to be a cancellation car (i.e. new). I had ordered a new car, and they offered me this one on the basis of late Nov / early Dec delivery rather than Feb delivery.

richard: you clearly remain more of a generous character than me :-) (and hence I may need to pick your brain on the phone). I don't really have a problem with 150 miles on the clock as long as there is nothing else wrong, but will be interested to look at the tracker logs. I remain of the opinion that one thing wrong one can write off to bad luck, but several things wrong is a poor show on the dealer's part.

timskemp: re the road angel: I presumed they would fit the power lead (plus external GPS aerial if necessary), but the unit would remain removable, so it couldn't be nicked in transit or otherwise. It is (I think) impossible to fit a modern road angel so the unit is not removable, unless you use superglue or something, as power and aerial have plugs on, and the unit docks magnetically.
