Last night a drink driver ruined my sleep...

the problem isn't the insurance company, it's the local police who dealt with it at the time of the RTC, apparently my insurers can't sort out the liability until the police have officially passed over the details of both the driver and the incident - apparently my insurance company have to pay the police for this information too, they said it can take up to a month!

my main problem is that they said the car can be taken away now, but as they have not resolved the liability claim on the other driver, it will come one of my own pocket (the excess and NCB) so they said the best thing to do was hold tight 'til this is cleared.

at least they have already sorted me with a new car, i have a brand new freelander 2 HSE for as long as it takes to get my Mercedes back.

Deja flippin Vu with the Police and their reports...

I ended up having to badger my insurance company almost every day...

With that being the case, I bet you won't find a claims firm willing to take you on...

Then your insurance company will start to bleat about the trouble they are having mitigating the costs of your renter...

I had some *hopefully* good news today, the police have sorted out all they need to sort, the other driver has finally accepted liability and after a lot of reasoning with my insurer, my car is no longer going to their own preferred body shop, but one sourced for me by Mercedes-Benz in Bury St Edmunds!

This is good on so many levels as, A) the car is being collected for inspection on Monday, B) it is through Mercedes themselves so should hopefully be done properly, and finally, C) i am returning my, albeit very nice Land Rover HSE Freelander 2 to enterprise car rental today because Mercedes are giving me a lovely new S320 CDi til my car is sorted! not bad for a 22 year old to be driving in until my E is repaired!!!!

Just tell them to do it properly, even if it takes months.lol

the longer the better in this case, not saying anything negative about my W210, i love it to bits, my favourite car ive ever owned (apart from maybe my old jag or corrado) but an E class is an E class, but an S class... well, when it's free... lol

had my coutesy car delivered yesterday morning, and im really impressed, the car is lovely to drive and full of buttons for things i didn't even know existed before i had it! even though it's a very "basic" spec (no parking sensors, basic cruise, single CD/DVD player, no heated seats) it's still got a lot to offer, it doesn't even feel that much bigger to drive than my E class, and seems to draw alot of attention when a 22 year old gets out of the drivers side!

If it wasn't for teh high running costs (even though i got 40mpg last night on a 65 mile round trip) i'd seriously consider one if my E class is no longer for this world...

The only problem ive had so far is that i can't get my iPhone to link up to the bluetooth, it says they are paired, but my pone won't then connect...

I finally got a call from my insurers today, and my W210 has not been written off!

They can't give me a completion date yet for the repairs, but they are repairing it! Happy days!

Looks like im going to be in an S320 for a bit longer now, but there are worse cars to be in while mine is away...!

1) In certain parts of the country that would be normal......
2) Aaah, it's really tough at the top, isn't it? :D I had the same problem with my new (says it quietly) C-Class that was delivered yesterday. It was a sod to get the car and phone to talk to each other..... Still no address book today though at least the phone works

I think it looks right at home in your drive , and complements your other car nicely - just tell the insurance company you'll keep it and not to trouble themselves fixing the W210 :D

Over in my part of the woods all the kids seem to drive their parents range rovers and cayennes! im breaking the mould with the S class haha!

I still cant get the phone to connect, it apparently pairs fine, but then doesn't connect with the car, no worries though, i'll just pull over like a good boy when the phone rings!

If only that SL500 was mine! it's my dads, along with the house, i was jsut round there trying to convince him to get an S class next!

so after a long phone conversation with the Hilton coachworks, who are doing the repairs on my car, it looks like its going to be while yet before i get in it, which is a shame as, as much as i love driving the S320, it is a beautiful car to look at and drive, it's not MY car, so the passion of ownership is dead.

after the inspection, they said that most of that side of the car needed replacing/respraying and it also suffered some suspension damage so that also needed replacing. Im happy that im going to get back probably half a new car, but what concerns me is that i bought the car for £5700 (after knocking the salesman down from £6400) but the total cost of repairs so far is around the £5500 mark, and thats before we take into the consideration the cost of the renting an S class for 6 weeks... i don't understand why they didn't write the car off?

It's a horrible experience to go through (and lengthy), I admit, but from the sound of it you have got a deal which is truly an optimum result. You get your own car back, half renewed, and NOT written off despite the apparent economics of the situation, and a nice motor to tool around in in the meantime.

A result in anyone's language! Well done! :thumb: Hope the repairs are all OK.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, im incredibly happy with the outcome, and hopefully the car will be great when it returns, i was just surprised with the insurance companies decision. I really can't wait to get it back now! getting rather impatient!

...after a really good weekend at edition38 in Northampton, with very little sleep, i thought i would treat myself to a proper shower, clean up and a good early night...

... unfortunately some drunk w@nker in an old red Seat Ibiza had other ideas...

I got woken up at about 1am by my mate telling me there were 3 police men in the living who wanted to see me about a black Mercedes parked outside the house.

I went down in quite a sleep deprived daze, to be greeted with "Do you know if your black merc outside has any damage to the body work?"

"no, it's lovely and straight and just been cleaned?!?"

"oh, can you step outside please"

POW!

apparently a taxi saw this bloke swerve into my car, blowing his tyre out and then driving off, taxi guy followed him and stopped him where he told the cab driver that the black car drove into him and that it wasn't his fault, all the time absolutely stinking of booze...

fortunately the police have found the guy, but haven't got back to me about insurance etc yet, i spoke to mine and they said that unless someone proves it wasn't my fault, it's going to cost me £900 before any repairs will be made...

so now, i still haven't caught up on sleep lost over the weekend, and my beautiful shiny car is now only half so.

such a shame as i had a really good time at edition38 but im too angry to think about that at the moment! :(

I'll get me coat & me baseball bat & be down in a couple of hours..... Hope this guy likes Hospital food!!!!!!
Can't treat a Mercedes like that !!!!

I really dont think you should be encouraging that sort of direct action here.

Nah - it would be cheaper to hang him - save the taxpayer a fortune on hospital bills and his benefit payments etc.

I would presume because they will be claiming every penny back from the other party's insurers.

Got a phone call from the coach works company on Friday telling me that everything is finally running on schedule and i should be getting my W210 back on Friday or Saturday (depending on when i can get to the MB dealer)!

I cannot wait to get my car back and actually be able to drive MY OWN car for the first time in so many weeks! it will be a real shame to see the S320 go though , i've become very fond of it, it really is a lovely car to drive and live with!
