Leaking gearbox

Well i didn't get to ring anyone as the gearbox was P**sing oil all over my driveway.

Garage looked at car and leak again is eminating from the electrical plug on the gearbox.

My original garage "presitige Workshop " in Southampton have taken my car back in as they completed the original work.

It looks like a control board inside the transmission has broken down and allowing oil to leak straight out through the plug.

The actual plug has been replaced 3 time. So it is a new gearbox controller board situated inside the gearbox

I finally hope this cures the problem.

Will keep you posted

The plug is held in place by a 7mm bolt through its centre which screws into the 'gearbox controller' (This part is actually called ..'electronic-hydraulic control unit') , this bolt only needs tightening very 'lightly' otherwise you could easily to strip the thread in the 'gearbox controller' which would probably result in oil leaking past the plug as the plug would then be loose.........possibly this is the problem with yours?

I have been told the control board which can be accessed via the sump will need replacing..

Removing the board and re-tapping the thread shouldnt be a problem and would save you a few quid! (if a stripped thread is what the problem is)

have you taken this car to Olly yet? Could save you a lot of hassle, i mean how can they call themselves Prestige Car Services if they dont even have the correct dipstick?! even ive got one!

Prestige Workshop do have a correct dipstick, they did the original work,

It was my local garage that didnt have a dipstick,

One of the mechanics didn't pass the message that my car was still knackered...to prestige Workshop

They now have my car and I should have it back next week......

Polar Design.

I realise that this is quite an old thread, but it would be interesting to know what the eventual cause was and was it finally fixed ?

I have to agree that when the answers are not posted back it does leave an empty feeling about any advice given, when the answer is posted , thats so useful for the next one

On a E320 where do you check the gearbox level and where to fill it? Mine is leaking from the electrical connection. Is this an easy fix?

I think what recycled misses here is that probably in excess of 90% of mercedes cars have autoboxes so its no wonder you see more posts about them.

I can recall a couple of threads on here where maunal boxes have gone **** up.....

Edit: Good grief, someone sort the censor out, you cant even say mammaries on here. Talk about over zealous:crazy:

its only a joke.
i really can not remember any manual yet.
must be like once a year.
Anyway it was just an observation.
Hope you get it sorted anyway.
When mine started to worry after i head funny noises in D i just sold it straight away even though it was at a loss.
