LHD vs RHD w202's

For some reason I started thinking about LHD cars compared to RHD cars.

In particular w202's.


I've recently been investigating adding cruise control to mar car, which means an additional stalk. I also drove an old 190 (RHD), which kept catching me out as the indicator stalk was on the right side, not the left like a w202.

Anyway, what's bugging me is this.

For the most part LHD and RHD cars are the same, (stick with with me) right?

I mean, you have the same car, the fuel filler is on the same side, the bonnet release catch stays the same side, if there was a centre handbrake, it's often offest as it were for the original German LHD market.

Yeah, so the dash has the driver on the other side. The buttons on the centre console remain in the same formation. The order doesn't change so those buttons nearest the driver on a LHD car are also nearest on a RHD car - do they?

So can anyone answer this.

RHD car. Indicator and Cruise stalk, left hand side. We all recognise this.

LHD Car. Indicator on left, Cruise Stalk on right!

Yeah, I got too much time, I need to get out more, but I like answers to these things!!

Just looked at a photo of a LHD W211, and the stalks are identical on mine, both on the left.

I thought that the c control stalk was always on the same side as the wiper/turn/main beam stalk ...

the one in the picture with the c control stalk on the right must be a spoof ...

I did wonder whether to start the post as "What's wrong with this picture?"

I can't remember where I grabbed it from, it looks real, but of a strangly high spec car.

I recognise that 1st interior! All those pics look like W202 interiors, so I'm a little bemused by the pic where the stalks are mounted on the right of the steering column.

I was confused for at least a week when I changed from my previous car, 1986 W201, 190E to my current car as the stalks swapped sides. Maybe they swapped back again on the W203?

I've never seen a W202 with stalks on the RHS of the column though.
