Am I right in thinking that my new E Class will come with Linguatronic since I have ordered Comand?

How good is it? And what can you control with it?

Yes, option code 512 (COMAND) comes with Linguatronic on the W212.

With it, you can use voice commands to select a function (navigation, radio, disc, telephone, etc) and also to control a selected function, e.g. Dial Name or Dial Number, etc with the phone, Next Station / Previous Station, etc with the radio, Next Track, Previous Track, Track Number etc, with the Disc or memory card player, Start / Stop navigation, enter a destination, etc. I confess that while it sounds as though it's just a geeky gadget, I've found it to be pretty useful in some circumstances. It recognises most commands I speak pretty reliably even though it's trained to recognise my wife's voice (it's in her SLK, not my W204), but is better at recognising her commands - as I'd expect.

Sounds good. Does it only control things which Comand would normally control any way, or can you have it do other car functions (like climate)?

No, it'll only control the things you can through the buttons on COMAND.

That's what I thought. It would be good though if it did the other functions as well - probably only a matter of time as cars move on so quickly.
