List your pet hates of motorists

Motorway or Dual Carriageway:

Roadworks in 1.5 miles
Roadworks in 1.0 miles
Roadworks in 800 yards
Roadworks in 400 yards
Roadworks in 200 yards
Roadworks in 100 yards

You are now driving into the cones. OK time to barge into the the remaining lane. No need to worry about those that actually paid attention to the signs and and filtered politely allowing traffic to flow. No No No. Far better to have everybody else lock up their anchors as I force my way in. Call me captain **** if you like but I got two cars ahead of you.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH

Slow drivers doing 40mph on country roads when 60 is possible.

Sorry Stevie-Boy, That could be me...

Buses, they seem to be the cause of every urban congestion hazard. I really hate buses.

You are again assuming the car only has one person in it, and often I see buses around mid day with about 5 folk on them.

I hate the things, no amount of posting from others to the contrary will change that.

You'll think differently in 40 years time when you get your bus-pass!

I can travel from Thurso to Stranraer - FOR FREE.:bannana:
...and back again! (tho' why I would want to escapes me...)

One thing that ticks me off are drivers who turn to look at their passenger when conducting a conversation. Sitting behind them, it is clear they are not paying attention to the road ahead. Consequently, i have developed a spooky ability to foresee them messing up.

For example, if I'm two behind a BUS, I can spot the "bus stopping" sign appearing on the lower deck. The inattentive prat in front of me misses this, so I delight in carving him up so he grinds to a halt behind said bus.:D

Who thought I was a considerate driver? :p

My old dad takes the train to Dublin now and again, just to browse a few book shops...then home again in time for dinner.

Sorry Stevie-Boy, That could be me...

Or if it's a female driving, then it could be me. :D

One of my pet hates is people driving very fast down small country roads. Especially the car load of sniggering neds who left a beautiful Red Squirrel dying in their wake near me....

The old lady in a big car could be me too :D

At which point should the filtering in process begin? 1.5 miles before the restriction? One mile?

It is legitimate to filter in at any stage leading up to the obstruction. It always makes me laugh to see the desperate efforts to get in lane of some 'early' filterers. If everyone tried to filter early at the same place you would get an even worse jam. Hats off to the confident driver who filters in at the last possible moment. Shame on the *****oles who try to not let him in.

Best approach is to use both lanes until almost at the restriction and then filter in turn (zip). Reduces delays due to some drivers trying to prevent what they see as queue jumpers pushing in. Maximizes use of road thereby preventing longer than necessary tailbacks which can stretch back past previous junctions causing more delays. Is fair as both queues to merge will be approximately the same length.

Not a pet hate of motorists but foreign registered lorry drivers pulling out on you. Usually on dual carriageways and extremely dangerous.

Surely this is a result of the filtering cones being setup incorrectly.
Instead of filtering one lane into another they need to set the cones so that both lanes filter into a central position, ensuring no self righteous drivers believe they can control other drivers who want to merge later on.

...and/or, divide the traffic into two lanes with cones, and then merge the lanes at a given point so that zipping must happen.

1) Everyone going slower than me is an idiot
2) Everyone going faster than me is a lunatic

Obviously, I'll be driving at exactly the correct speed for the road and traffic conditions :D

I do that ^^and if more people used both lanes there'd be a lot less tailbacks during roadworks.

Drivers that when you come up behind them on a road and are slowing down to match their speed put the brakes on if they think you are a bit close. Rather than brake I now just let the car roll on so end up even closer, they then get the choice of speeding up again or have a car very close...

It happened the other day on a motorway when in a filtering off lane leading onto another motorway. We ended up doing under 40 mph, but slipstreaming well... :D

Good to know that you guys will applaud and shake my hands as I take out your front bumpers to avoid me hitting the cones. Knights of the road and an example to us all.

I could do with some paintwork on the front bumper so feel free, but do expect to pay up.
