Mercedes CLS 350
Good morning everyone,

I am currently driving a BMW 330d coupe. I am looking to swap my BMW for a CL500 W216.
At the moment I am interested in this one here:

Mercedes-Benz 5.5 CL 500 2dr

I know it is a CAT D car but I already contacted the car dealer and the car sustained rear damage needing a new bumper, tail gate and lights. This was back in 2013 and has been fully repaired and on the road since. The work was carried out by a company called Solus that warranted their work for 3 years.

So there is still warranty on the work.
What do you think about the car?

I already looked up the VIN number and it has any spec you can imagine.

Thank you for your input!

I was looking at this only last night :)

I would want as much info as possible on the CATD, for it be be written off I would imagine that the chassis may have been damaged also.

Cost of 2 new rear lights £600
Bootlid + respraying £1000?
Rear bumber + respraying £900?

Not enough to write it off, somthing else must have been damaged, quarter panels?

Looks great though, if its as good as it looks in person your laughing!

I was thinking the same. Maybe I will contact directly the company who repaired the car.
It is really tempting seeing the mileage is low and the specification is really good.

The drivers side rear light cluster still looks cracked in the corner.

If you have a viewing, be sure you look behind all the boot trim and under the boot carpet aswell as underneath.

I would say also if you have a viewing, ask to take it to a local indie to put up on a ramp and check all chassis is straight etc, 4 wheel alignment check etc......

My review?

Save yourself £6k and buy MINE :thumb:

Your first impression of your car when you bought it.
No offense but I can see your seats are showing waves. I am really picky about that. They need to look like no one has sat on them before.

The only problem I face is that there are not a lot of W216 out there in my region.
Maybe I should go for a CLS instead.

I think I gave up on the W216 I suggested. It is just not worth it going through all this.
I found a nice CLS instead:

Do not give up looking for the car you like, chose the model you like, colors etc and stick to looking for it. It took me ages to find my car, i did so much research and even bought a banger to give me time to find it.

MB in Swindon have one for 17500 but 72k miles on a 08 plate. A bit more but presumably an approved used, and with a lot of kit.

I think you are right. I just have to wait and see. No need to buy a car I will not like after a couple of months.

I saw this one as well. Has no ventilated seats or distronic plus. So I decided against it.

Cl500

The wheels are scuffed and the boot carpet had not been cleaned. I would look for a seller who presented the car in a better condition

To be honest I think I will not even bother to view the car anymore. It just does not feel right although it has really nice specs.
I quite like the idea of a CLS63 AMG now seeing it is more practical for a family.

I just heard back from the dealer regarding the CAT D.
And that is the response I got:

Hi, There is no sign of chassis damage. It seems the car was written off for a gearbox problem. We have found Mercedes receipts for a new gearbox and related items. The work was carried out by Mercedes themselves and all faults rectified couple of years ago.
Thanks

Time to run away me thinks
